Happy Women’s Equality Day! Today, we celebrate the progress we've made and acknowledge the work still needed to achieve true gender equality. My experience as a single father raising two daughters has deepened my understanding of the disparities women face. In California, the Fair Pay Act has made strides in closing gaps by requiring employers to provide equal pay for substantially similar work, regardless of gender. Let’s honor this day by continuing to support and uplift one another, striving for a future where everyone has equal opportunities and respect.

This International Homeless Pets Day, I’ve teamed up with Helen Woodward Animal Center for a special Pet Adoption Event. Every year, millions of pets find themselves without a home. Join us in finding these loving pets the homes they deserve.

I’m heartbroken to hear of the loss of Becca Taylor. Becca dedicated her life to helping others- as a Navy Vet, party activist and Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party. Becca was always a source of positivity, happiness and laughter. She will be missed but her memory will live on with those who knew her.

On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Texas to announce the emancipation of all enslaved individuals. Now, 159 years later, Juneteenth honors the end of slavery and the ongoing fight for equality.
