superbloom or superdoom? 🌼
Did you know these flowers, commonly called crown daisy, are highly invasive? We LOVE removing it to let native plants thrive. 😁
🌼 Crown daisy (Glebionis coronaria) are nonnative invasive plants native to the Mediterranean and East Asia. Their seeds sprout quickly after rain and swiftly take over disturbed areas, crowding out native plants.
🌼 After their growing period, dead plant mass can remain in place for years, further degrading the native ecosystem by hindering native plants' growth and creating major fire fuel.
PS - yes, most of the yellow flowers you see on the side of the freeway right now are this invasive species. Sorry 😬

Happy ! 🪶
Black-headed grosbeaks are aptly named, identified by their rather large + thick beaks and mostly black heads. San Diego is on this very cool bird's migratory path. 😎
⁉️ Migration is when an animal moves from one region to another, typically on the hunt for better food, weather, or breeding sites. San Diego lies on the Pacific Flyway - a migratory highway for birds in North America.
