Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986), known professionally as Lady Gaga, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She is known for reinventing her image and showcasing versatility in entertainment. Gaga started performing as a teenager by singing at open mic nights and acting in school plays. She studied Collaborative Arts Project 21 before leaving to pursue a music career. After a contract cancellation by Def Jam Recordings, Gaga worked as a songwriter for Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Lady Gaga's connection to the Rolling Stones includes a collaboration on their song "Sweet Sound of Heaven" for their album Hackney Diamonds and a guest appearance in their 2012 concert film and live album Grrrr Live!, "Gimme Shelter" which was recorded during their 50 & Counting tour.

In 1804, the 45 men of the Lewis & Clark Expedition reached Arikara villages on the Missouri River in Dakota Territory. The Arikara population had been slashed by the smallpox epidemics of 1775-81 and 1801-02. Area Natives had traded with Whites, but never seen so many at one time. York, the 6-foot-tall slave of Clark, was the subject of great curiosity.

In early literature, the Arikara were referred to as Arikaree, a mispronunciation, or Ree, a shortened version. They resided in earthen huts for much of the year, and the women were renowned for growing impressive crops, particularly corn.

Photographer Edward Curtis focused on documenting spiritual practices, even transcribing many songs. He recorded 10,000 sound cylinders, although 90 percent have been lost to history. Curtis and his crew spent enough time with tribes to gain some level of trust, often photographing ceremonies that had been suppressed on reservations for decades.

Curtis wrote: “… no people have a more elaborate religious system than our aborigines, and none are more devout in the performance of the duties connected therewith. There is scarcely an act in the Indian’s life that does not involve some ceremonial performance or is not in itself a religious act, sometimes so complicated that much time and study are required to grasp even a part of its real meaning, for his myriad deities must all be propitiated lest some dire disaster befall him…. This remarkable ceremony of the medicine fraternity of the Arikara has long been dormant, the agency officials having suppressed it about 1885.”

Keanu did not break: he donated $5 million to the clinic that treated his sister, refused to shoot (to be with her), and created the Leukemia Foundation, donating significant sums from each fee for the film. You can be born a man, but to remain one..
