A young California sea lion was recently rescued from Alcatraz Island by The Marine Mammal Center (California) volunteers. The sea lion pup, aptly named “Al Catraz”, was reported by park rangers who saw him on a dock, looking like he needed a bit of help. The young pup was severely underweight and weak, and he couldn’t eat on his own. The Center staff had to tube-feed him a fish milkshake formula at first so he could gain the needed weight.

Now, he’s livelier and can eat fish on his own. He will be cared for and looked after for a few more weeks before being released back into the wild!

Crissy Field Center | Luminalt - Solar Energy Solutions 02/17/2012

The Crissy Field Center, in its mission of going “green”, has installed 3 out of 5 wind turbines yesterday to help supply power to the center. Solar panels are already installed on the roof of the center. According to Jon Jarvis of the National Park Service, the wind turbines are “bird-friendly”. Crissy Field is known to be very windy, so the center is the best place for these generators. Click on the article to learn more!
