Italian Community Services Italian Community Services In 1916, leading members of the San Francisco Italian community, such as A.P. They had a dream.

Giannini, Marco Fontana and Andrea Sbarboro, established the Italian-American Community Services Agency. Successful in their own lives, these leaders wanted to help their Italian peers.

This Saturday, October 24th, from 10am to 5pm, our friends at ICSA will be out on Mason Street at Lombard with books, clothes, bric-a-brac, linens, toys and so much more. All proceeds go to support Italian Community Services and the work we do every day for our community. We’re so grateful to the ICSA volunteers for their generosity and hard work! ❤️

Today, October 20, over 200 Italian language students from schools across the Bay Area filled our historic theater to meet Arlecchino, Brighella, and Colombina live on stage with Colpi di Maschera by Domenico Piscopo, Nicola Adobati and Martina Cavagnoli.

Professional actors from Italy brought Commedia dell’Arte to life with masks, physical comedy, and plenty of laughter, proving that a language is best learned when you can feel it, hear it, and laugh in it. 😄

Grazie to Club Fugazi Experiences, Leonardo Da Vinci Society, SF Museo Italo Americano, the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco, and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura SF for making this possible, and to every teacher who brought their class.

For 110 years, ICS has kept Italian culture alive in San Francisco. Mornings like this show us it has a bright future. 💚🤍❤️

🎭 Una mattinata speciale al Teatro Fugazi!

Questa mattina oltre 200 studenti di italiano, da scuole di tutta la Bay Area, hanno riempito il nostro storico teatro per incontrare dal vivo Arlecchino, Brighella e Colombina con “Colpi di Maschera di Domenico Piscopo, Nicola Adobati e Martina Cavagnoli.

Attori professionisti arrivati dall’Italia hanno dato vita alla Commedia dell’Arte tra maschere, comicità fisica e tante risate, perché una lingua si impara meglio quando la si vive, la si ascolta e ci si ride insieme. 😄

Grazie a Club Fugazi Experiences, Leonardo Da Vinci Society, SF Museo Italo Americano, al Consolato Generale d’Italia a San Francisco e all’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di SF per aver reso possibile questa giornata, e a tutti gli insegnanti che hanno accompagnato le loro classi.

Da 110 anni ICS tiene viva la cultura italiana a San Francisco. Mattinate come questa ci dicono che il suo futuro è luminoso. 💚🤍❤️

One week ago we celebrated La Dolce Vita! ✨🇮🇹
Italian Community Services joined the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Italian Heritage Parade at Il Gran Ballo – La Dolce Vita After Dark, at the iconic Westin St. Francis in Union Square. Black tie, the Lucky Devils Band on stage, and a ballroom full of friends from across our Italian-American community, dancing and celebrating together.

Grazie to the SF Italian Heritage Parade Board for an elegant evening honoring our heritage, our traditions and the community that keeps them alive.

La scorsa settimana abbiamo celebrato La Dolce Vita!✨🇮🇹

Italian Community Services ha partecipato con il Board of Directors della San Francisco Italian Heritage Parade a Il Gran Ballo – La Dolce Vita After Dark, nella splendida cornice del Westin St. Francis a Union Square. Abiti da sera, la musica dal vivo dei Lucky Devils e una sala piena di amici della nostra comunità italo-americana, a ballare e festeggiare insieme.

🕊️ Earlier this week, San Francisco marked a once-in-800-years milestone!

The Knights of Saint Francis of Assisi, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of San Francisco, gathered our community at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption for the Francis Lives 800 Year Jubilee, honoring San Francisco’s 250th birthday and celebrating the California Missions.

As the namesake of our beloved city, Saint Francis reminds us that a community is strongest when we care for one another—especially the humble, the vulnerable, and those too often forgotten. At Italian Community Services, that same spirit guides our work every day as we support seniors and families in North Beach and throughout the Bay Area. ❤️

Grazie to the Knights of Saint Francis for bringing the artwork and relics of Saint Francis to our home in San Francisco and giving our community this special opportunity to reflect on his enduring legacy of compassion and service.

The relics will remain at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption for six weeks and are free to view. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to celebrate the spirit of our city’s namesake and the values that continue to bring us together.

Yesterday, Italian Community Services was honored to join Mayor Daniel Lurie, the San Francisco Office of Protocol and the San Francisco–Assisi Sister City Committee at City Hall to celebrate Italian Heritage Month. 🇮🇹

Our Executive Director Vyria Paselk Haverhals and our Community Relationship Manager Sara Beltramo Hewitt represented ICS as we welcomed a special delegation from Assisi, the hometown of St. Francis, after whom our city is named.

For 110 years, ICS has helped keep our Italian community connected. Seeing two cities linked by friendship and shared heritage reminded us why that mission still matters today.

Grazie to the Mayor's Office and the Office of Protocol for a beautiful afternoon. 💚🤍❤️

Last night, ICS Executive Director Vyria Paselk Haverhals joined a special reception at the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco, honoring visiting delegations from the City of Assisi, the Region of Umbria, the San Francisco–Assisi Sister City Committee, and the Knights of St. Francis.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with representatives from Assisi and Umbria and celebrate the shared cultural heritage, traditions, and friendships that continue to strengthen the Italian-American community in the Bay Area.

Our city carries the name of St. Francis of Assisi and, with it, his values of compassion, humility, and caring for those in need. At ICS, we strive to live these values every day, whether through a warm meal shared at our Wednesday Luncheon, a visit to a senior living alone, or a helping hand to a family in need.

A special thank you to Consul General Massimo Carnelos for bringing our community together for this memorable evening, and to Angela Alioto (.m.alioto) and Richard Armanino (.armanino.52) for their dedication to keeping the bond between San Francisco and Assisi alive.

What a day! 🇮🇹❤️

Yesterday, Italian Community Services joined the Italian Heritage Parade in San Francisco with our very own float—and what a beautiful celebration it was.

It was wonderful to see our community come together along the parade route to celebrate Italian heritage, history, culture, and the generations who have helped make San Francisco what it is today.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who walked with us, cheered us on, waved from the sidelines, and helped make the day so special.

We are proud to be part of this community—and grateful to celebrate our Italian heritage together. 🇮🇹

Ieri, Italian Community Services ha partecipato all’Italian Heritage Parade di San Francisco con il nostro carro allegorico, ed è stata una celebrazione meravigliosa.

È stato veramente molto bello vedere la nostra comunità riunirsi lungo il percorso della parata per celebrare il patrimonio, la storia, la cultura italiana e le generazioni che hanno contribuito a rendere San Francisco la citta’ che è oggi.

Un sentito ringraziamento a tutti coloro che hanno sfilato con noi, ci hanno incoraggiato, ci hanno salutato dai bordi del percorso e hanno contribuito a rendere questa giornata così speciale.

Siamo orgogliosi di far parte di questa comunità e grati di poter celebrare insieme il nostro patrimonio italiano. 🇮🇹
