ATTENTION: CALL VIRGINIA PARRAS at 415-452-5150 or email at [email protected] AND SAY NO TO CCSF AS RESOURCE CENTER CUTS!
CCSF Administration is demanding Associated Students make a 25% cut to our resource centers or they will not release any funds for students. This is an outrage! There are funds that are available in the district and in the AS reserve. When we called for the student wage increase, we demanded that no cuts be made to student services. The district funding the increase by taking from AS funds even though students are employees of the district. Also admin sent an email this past Sunday giving only 3 days notice for the cut. Some students will be laid off, this is inadequate notice and illegal. WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Note from CCSF Chancellor about accreditation status...
May 21, 2014
Dear College Community,
With our Spring semester nearing completion and commencement upon us, I wanted to circle back and update you about our ongoing efforts regarding accreditation.
A brief summary of where we stand:
Our team is going through the appeal process consistent with the ACCJC rules. As noted previously, we are required by these rules to keep the process confidential.
Our General Counsel is heading our team, which includes outside counsel, who has expertise in academic appellate matters.
If our appeal is unsuccessful, we will promptly take all possible legal steps to maintain accreditation including filing a federal lawsuit against the ACCJC.
Regardless of the outcome of the appeal, CCSF's accreditation is guaranteed for Fall 2014.
An injunction is in place as a result of a lawsuit filed by the City Attorney prohibiting termination of accreditation at least through October.
In the meantime, what's most important for all of us is to work to maintain and increase enrollment. We need to continue to maintain a positive attitude and instill confidence in current and future students.
CCSF has made great progress since the beginning of this challenge. As of today, we have completed 94.7% of the 323 items on our Roadmap to Success. To give you a sense of how far we've come, we were at 14% in August 2013 and 47% in December 2013. Additionally, the faculty has revised 1,030 course outlines. We have ongoing assessment in place at close to 100% of our Student Learning Outcomes at the course, program, student services and counseling levels. 88% of student services and 81% in counseling have achieved closed loop status. These are only a few of the measures that demonstrate our progress. These efforts are an expression of the commitment and work of our faculty, our staff, our administrators and our students. Truly extraordinary!
I thank each of you for your tireless work to maintain this great institution. Your resilience is remarkable and your commitment to City College is our greatest resource.
On a lighter note, I hope you will avail yourself of the season and the coming of Summer, as well as share in the accomplishment of our students, by joining me for commencement this Friday, May 23rd at 1pm.
Sincerely,
Dr. Arthur Q. Tyler
Chancellor
Vote for Sarah Bouabibsa for Associated Students Ocean Campus President!
Tomorrow, SF Supervisor Campos will be introducing a resolution to return the elected Board of Trustees to CCSF. As the recent "salary gate" shows, the current decision-making structure at the college is not transparent or democratic. We can no longer afford to have a Special Trustee with Extraordinary Powers who makes decisions behind closed doors without any open, public meetings.
This resolution asks that the voice of San Francisco voters be restored; restoring the Board of Trustees will bring democratic decision-making, transparency, and public accountability back to our CCSF.
Please come to City Hall tomorrow, February 10 at 2:30pm to support Supervisor Campos' resolution. (We expect public comment to begin somewhere between 2:30 and 3pm.) We look forward to seeing you there as a supporter or as a public commenter. Please contact Ona if you can make it.
Buttons and t-shirts encouraged!
