This International Women’s Day hits different.
Not because of the hashtags or the flower emojis or the “you go, girl” energy that floods our feeds every March 8th.

It hits different because we are watching in real time as rights that took generations to build are being dismantled in plain sight.

Women globally still hold only 64% of the legal rights that men do.

Over half the world’s countries still don’t define grape based on consent.

The U.S. just withdrew from the UN Women Executive Board, stepping back from the very table where women’s rights are defended globally.

The backlash against gender equality isn’t just rhetoric anymore. It’s policy. It’s law. It’s coordinated.

So no. I’m not posting a celebratory message today.
I’m posting a truthful one.

I grew up watching women lead in some of the hardest conditions imaginable, in post-disaster zones, in conflict regions, in boardrooms where they were the only one who looked like them. I’ve worked alongside women who rebuilt communities after tsunamis, who trained teachers in civil war zones, who held organizations together when everything around them was falling apart.

These women didn’t wait to be invited. They didn’t wait for permission, and they certainly didn’t wait for a policy framework to tell them they mattered.

That is the legacy we carry forward.

Not celebration for celebration’s sake, but clarity about what’s at stake.

If you lead people, ask yourself today:
→ Whose voices are missing from your decision-making table?
→ What systems in your organization still disadvantage women, not by intention, but by design?
→ What are you willing to risk to change that?

Rights are not gifts. They are built, defended, and right now, they need to be fought for.
