She was the first person I served that day. 🤍

Later, while I was putting everything away, she told me something I hadn’t even noticed.

“The line went all the way down the sidewalk. ”

I was so focused on whoever was in front of me, I never realized how far the line had gone.

Sometimes we don’t see the whole picture when we’re focused on the person right in front of us. 🤍

He was already walking away when I remembered one more thing. 🤍

“Brother, do you need any wipes?”’

“Oh yeah. ”

Sometimes care is just remembering the little things before someone leaves. 🤍

He went to grab the last bottle of water.

Then he noticed the bag was empty.

“I’ll throw the garbage for you.“‘

And he took it with him. 🤍

Sometimes kindness comes back in the smallest ways.

She told me they had been on the street for eight days.

Then, while I was finding blankets and warm things for them, I heard her little girl say,

“Mommy, go home.”

Her mom answered,

“Yes, we now have a home.”’ 🤍

That little sentence stayed with me.

Sometimes something we say every day can mean everything to someone who has been waiting to say it again.

“We have a home.” 🤍

I’ve handed out socks so many times.

but I don’t think I fully understood what a fresh pair could mean until they explained it to me.

He told me how badly their feet can hurt and showed me the swelling in his leg.

Then the woman beside him told me how good it feels just to change into fresh socks.

Sometimes we think we’re the ones giving.

But if we listen closely,
we’re receiving something too.

They helped me understand something I had never lived myself.

And I’m grateful they shared that with me. 🤍

Before I gave him anything, he asked if I needed help. 🤍

Later, when he came by for something to eat and drink, he kept thanking me.

but what stayed with me was that before I ever gave him anything,
he offered something first.

Sometimes care finds its way back to you. 🤍

Why do we keep meeting the same person
in different bodies?

different face.
different name.
different story.

But somehow,
the same pain.

The one who makes us wait.
The one we keep trying to understand.
The one who gives us just enough
to keep us hoping.

We call it chemistry.
Our “type. ”

but sometimes,
we aren’t attracted only to the person.

we’re also drawn to a feeling
our body already knows.

because long before we understood love,
we were learning what closeness felt like.

and if closeness once meant waiting,
chasing,
or wondering if we were enough…

familiar pain can sometimes feel strangely like love.

Not because we want to suffer.

But because what is familiar
can feel easier to recognize
than what is healthy but unfamiliar.

Until one day,
we stop asking:

“Why do I keep meeting the same person?“‘

and finally ask:

“What part of me keeps recognizing them? ”

Different face.
Same wound.

And healing begins when
what feels familiar
no longer feels like home. 🤍

Sometimes care also means knowing when to ask for a little space. 🤍

The street can get crowded quickly, and in that moment I just needed enough room to stand up and keep helping.

A few seconds later, we were right back to hand warmers, dog food, and making sure he and his dog had what they needed.

Kindness and boundaries can exist together. 🤍

He remembered what I had given his little sister. 🤍

then when I mentioned my wrist was hurting, he offered to help me.

Sometimes care finds its way back to you. 🤍

He told me it had been a long time. 🤍

Then while I was making his plate,he started telling me about school, Saint Mary’s, and how someone used to bring a dish like this.

Sometimes food can bring back memories we weren’t expecting.

I just hoped this plate brought back something good. 🤍
