In August of 2002 Evergreen Valley High School (EVHS) opened with a focus on all students graduating UC and CSU ready, one to one devices and ongoing professional development for teachers grounded in equity, Understanding By Design (UBD) and technology. Before it was opened 32 teachers were hired, 8 teachers per small school to work together in groups of four with built in collaboration time. I met a few of my future colleagues on this day viewing the construction of EVHS in 2001

It is hard to believe that in the year 2001 I was teaching Health, Careers, and Driver's Education aka "HCD" at Mt. Pleasant High School in East Side Union High School District. Time flies when you do what you love!

Interesting enough that this day means so much more than a day off. When Labor Day was first celebrated in 1887 it was a way to build and strengthen unions who began to organize after the 1870's recession. Oregon was first to put Labor Day into law in 1887. The fight was to set the eight hour workday, which most people enjoy today and to illustrate the inequities amongst capitalists and industry. Thank you to all those who worked in labor unions before us and now, especially to my dad who was an IBEW member for over 30 years. Because of labor unions our family was able to afford a home purchase, dance lessons, soccer and other things a family may not have access to without a decent living wage, healthcare and dental care.

I began my career in education in a non-traditional way. I was actually serving as a long term substitute at Ocala Middle School in 1999 when I was offered my first teaching contract. It sure looks different now, but one thing that has not changed is how quickly the students steal my heart.

What a wonderful duo of trustees for the San Jose -Evergreen Community College District. Great pleasure meeting Buu Thao Region 7 and Tony Alexander Region 8. Thank you Marisa Hanson incumbent for Evergreen School District 2022. I support Buu Thao and Tony Alexander and can vote for Tony Alexander in November 2022. I endorse Marisa Hanson for Evergreen School District 2022. All three candidates, Buu Thai, Tony Alexander and Marisa Hanson are established community members who know what it takes to govern effectively with strong relationships and experience.
