The Gate House of San Pedro, California, is Available for Film and Photo Shoots! Construction began circa 1919, and completed in 1928.
Update: As of September 2012, the Gate House is no longer available for filming, and has been acquired by a new owner who is restoring the beautiful property. Thank you for your interest.
The Gate House is a spectacular historic landmark, and private residence. It is one of the first homes built on the cliffs of West San Pedro, (aka, Shor
es Shores). The stunning views, and hundreds of picturesque angles, along with the breathtaking California light, make this one of the most desirable locations for film shoots along the coastline of south Los Angeles County. Situated just a few miles north of the Port of LA, the San Pedro area has served as a location for numerous TV shows, movies, music videos, commercials and photo shoots, since the 1930s. One of the many ways the property's architecture is unique, is in that it is built primarily from stones quarried from the Pacific Ocean in the 1920s, which provide the structure for the entire house. In addition, the Lower Deck with its sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, as well as the Circular Stone Patio courtyard entry, have provided fantastic settings for more than 20 weddings, and hundreds of private parties, over the years. The Great Room is unique in that is octagonal, and the front windows are floor to ceiling, which allows for amazing interiors shots with the Pacific Ocean as a background. A few additional advantages to using this house for a film production:
The Gate House is only few miles south of the Trump National Golf Club and Terrenea Resort. The house and outdoor decks and porches, have been used in only four film productions over the years, so the structure is not overly familiar on camera. The property has not been designated an official historic landmark, at this time, so no specials permits are required for filming. In addition, neighbors on all three sides of the Gate House, are cooperative regarding film production. The property is available for long-term film productions. HISTORICAL FUN FACTS ABOUT the GATE HOUSE:
The stone masons were imported from Italy. There are Great White Whale bones, and Seal Fins, located within the stone pillars and walls. The house was commissioned by Charles S. Jones, and designed by the architectural group, Weston and Weston from Pasadena, CA. The Tower Room has served as a nautical beacon and navigational point, for close to 100 years.
