This October or “Pinktober”, we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Nationwide, 1 in 3 new female cancer diagnoses are breast cancer cases. According to American Cancer Society, it is predicted that about 321,910 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2026. However, breast cancer is not just exclusive to women, men are also potential recipients of it as well. In fact, the National Breast Cancer Coalition expect about 2,620 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2026.

It is very important and crucial for your health that you seek early screenings and testing. Death rates among women with breast cancer has decreased by 44% from 1984 to 2024 due to earlier screenings and more treatment options. This is a treatable cancer that has had many advances over the years for safer, stronger treatment thanks to research and tests conducted in the medical field.

Thank you to all the health care professionals for their tireless efforts and life-saving work to treat this cancer. This month, let us honor the memory of all of those lost to breast cancer and stand with their families.

In September and October, we honor Hispanic Heritage and celebrate the impact that Hispanic Americans have made in Orange County’s culture and community. At our last Board meeting, Supervisor Sarmiento and I held a presentation to recognize Orange County's leaders of Hispanic Heritage.

Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and celebrates the cultures and contributions of Latino Americans, tracing their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. With over one million residents of Orange County identifying as Hispanic, it is crucial that we take the time to recognize the incredible achievements and rich history of Hispanic culture and heritage.

I was honored to invite Erika Robles, President of the United Across Borders Foundation and Fullerton School District Trustee Vanessa Estrella as my guests for the presentation.

Let us continue to honor and support the traditions, history, and contributions of the Hispanic community not only this month, but year-round. By honoring the past and embracing the present, we continue our efforts towards progress and celebrate the diverse communities of Orange County.

I joined the OC Health Care Agency and Angel's Baseball for a Mental Health Panel.

HCA Director, Dr. Veronica Kelley, and Angels players, Ben Joyce and Kyren Paris, advocated for the importance of asking for support when experiencing mental health struggles. It was a great event to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in sports and for men. We are very fortunate to have Angels Baseball as one of our health care partners!

Hopefully through the conversations with the players, more fans will prioritize their mental health. Thank you to the Angels players and Dr. Kelley for speaking about such an important topic!

We are proud to share that we sponsored the recent Celebrating Families event, in partnership with the Orange County Social Services Agency. A big thank you to the Fullerton Free Church for providing the venue for the event.

It was a beautiful and meaningful event, which honored the reunification of families within the foster care system and recognized the vital role SSA social workers play in helping parents and children reunite. It was truly moving to hear the powerful stories of resilience and hope shared by families.

Thank you to the Social Services Agency’s Children and Family Services department, for your dedication to supporting families on their journey toward stability and self-sufficiency.

I had a great time at the Friendly Center's 2026 Havana Nights Gala.

I was able to recognize Friendly Center CEO Dr. Kenia Cueto, PhD for her leadership and commitment to our community. I had the pleasure working with her and the Friendly Center team on the Fourth District Emergency Rental Assistance Program and the opening of the Friendly Mart in Buena Park.

Thank you Dr. Cueto for your unwavering commitment to the community and thank you to the Friendly Center team for serving Orange County residents with dignity and compassion.

Office Ambassador Paulette Chaffee attended Cal State Fullerton’s dedication ceremony of the Titan Elephant statue.

A statue of CSUF’s mascot was installed at O’Brien Square between the Humanities-Social Sciences Building, Gordon Hall, and Langsdorf Hall. The 22-feet tall bronze elephant statue weighs over 14,000 pounds and was cast from an estimated 70 pieces.

The Titan encapsulates the longstanding strength and commitment to excellence of the CSUF community. A special thank you to the O’Brien family for their generous donation and contributions to the funding of this beautiful statue.

Congratulations to Cal State Fullerton on this incredible and exciting accomplishment!

I attended the annual OCTA Bus Roadeo at the Santa Ana Bus Base! This friendly competition brings together OCTA’s talented team members from Operators, Maintenance, and Administrative divisions to showcase their driving expertise, safety practices, and precision behind the wheel.

I had the unique opportunity to hop in the driver’s seat and navigate the course experiencing firsthand the incredible skill and focus it takes to safely operate a 40-foot bus through tight turns and obstacles.

Thank you to OCTA’s dedicated operators, mechanics, and staff for keeping Orange County moving safely and efficiently every day. Your hard work and professionalism make a lasting impact on our communities.
