🐾❤️ These adorable puppies are soaking up all the love, care, and cuddles while being fostered at the Springer Correctional Center (SCC)!

While these cuties are no longer available for adoption, we just couldn’t resist sharing these photos to brighten your day. ☀️

Good news though! The SCC will be welcoming a new batch of foster puppies that will be available for adoption, soon.

This foster program is done through our strong partnership with Española Humane. 🐶

💡Fun fact: Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero sparked the partnership with Espanola Humane after a visit to an adoption event a few years ago.

Today, this partnership has grown into multiple initiatives at the Penitentiary of New Mexico and the SCC.

The New Mexico Corrections Department currently has dog programs at all eight state prisons, teaching responsibility, empathy, while creating an atmosphere that is beneficial for both staff and incarcerated individuals.

🪏Helping the local community🪏

Recently, individuals incarcerated at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas worked to fill sandbags for Valencia County Emergency Management.

These sandbags help to protect and support local communities during periods of heavy rainfall.

Across New Mexico, several of our correctional facilities have sandbag operations that provide valuable support to the surrounding communities.

Thank you to all our incredible staff that make projects like this possible! 🙌

✨ We had a fantastic time at this year’s Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta! ✨

Over the course of nine days, our probation and parole officers, corrections officers, leadership team members, and staff had the wonderful opportunity of connecting with people from near and far, while enjoying everything the Fiesta has to offer—from the early morning drone shows and mass ascensions, to the spectacular evening balloon glows.

Also, is there anything quite like watching the balloons while drinking hot coffee and enjoying a warm breakfast burrito? 😉💞

A big thank you to all of our staff who proudly represented the New Mexico Corrections Department throughout this year’s Balloon Fiesta!
