Last night, the City of Santa Fe unanimously approved the Hopewell Mann Neighborhood Stabilization Plan, a 10-year, 3-phase action plan for Santa Fe's lowest income neighborhood, immediately north of the city-owned, 100-acre Midtown parcel currently undergoing redevelopment and revitalization.

The Hopewell Mann Neighborhood Stabilization Plan carries on the community's collective work of the Midtown Plans, all of which have ensured that community voice is the primary driver of urban planning and development. The promise of Development Without Displacement is possible not just at Midtown, but in low-income neighborhoods which have historically borne the brunt of disinvestment while simultaneously being excluded from the benefits of redevelopment.

Chainbreaker wants to recognize the members of the City of Santa Fe Governing Body who sponsored this visionary policy plan, Mayor Michael Garcia & both District 2 Councilors Elizabeth Barrett & Paul Bustamante. Chainbreaker wants to recognize the dozens of City staff and employees who reviewed and contributed to the Plan & the staff at the City’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency who stewarded the process of governmental collaboration. And finally, Chainbreaker wants to congratulate the hundreds of Hopewell Mann residents who wrote the Plan, and the thousands of Chainbreaker members since 2004, who have stood ready with the solutions to combat gentrification.

🌧️ Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding: Prepare Now

Heavy rainfall is expected across northern and central New Mexico beginning Tuesday and continuing through much of the week. The National Weather Service says the storm system could bring locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

Before the rain arrives, know where to get official information:

πŸ”Ή Ready Santa Fe: Check current emergency information, maps, road closures and public safety notices at ready.santafenm.gov.

πŸ”Ή Alert Santa Fe: Make sure you are signed up to receive official emergency notifications directly by text or email.

πŸ”Ή Ready.gov: Find additional flood preparedness and safety information at ready.gov/flood-toolkit.

A few important reminders:
β€’ Never drive through a flooded roadway. Turn around, don’t drown.
β€’ Stay away from arroyos, drainage channels and normally dry streambeds during heavy rain.
β€’ Have more than one way to receive weather and emergency alerts.
β€’ Know alternate routes in case flooding makes your usual route unsafe.

Conditions can change quickly during heavy rainfall. Stay aware and rely on official sources for the latest information.
