Constant Contact!!

Mobley-Giles-Willis Lodge #7 has moved our contact list to Constant Contact, a web-based service to send official FOP messages, both email and phone texts, to our members to keep them informed of important and time-sensitive information regarding the National, State, and Local Fraternal Order of Police information, events, and benefits. The State and National Lodges already utilize Constant Contact to disseminate important FOP-related information,n and it seems to work fairly well and provides a professional and official product to ensure that our members are informed. As part of this service, we may have the opportunity to solicit RSVPs for certain upcoming events so that we can plan appropriately for events, food, drinks, entertainment, etc…

We are not trying to inundate your email accounts with frivolous emails, but the limitations of other email platforms, such as Gmail and others, prevent us from sending one email to all members without getting blocked, spammed, or denied altogether. Please do not unsubscribe or cancel this service, as you will risk missing important emails related to your FOP status and benefits. If you miss upcoming emails regarding renewals, you may risk being placed as inactive and/or removed from the lodge. We are also trying to limit the necessity of mailing information due to the rising costs associated with USPS and mailing numerous letters.

Our plan is to utilize Constant Contact to send targeted emails for monthly meeting reminders, upcoming events, and to put out specialized and/or time-sensitive information relating to FOP and Law Enforcement, including the renewal of your FOP dues. Constant Contact can also send text messages, but we would be limited to about two text messages to all our contacts per month so these will be reserved for the most important and/or time-sensitive information, possibly requiring a response.

To ensure that you get all the communications necessary to be an informed member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Mobley-Giles-Willis Lodge #7, please add or ensure that the following email accounts are added as contacts in your email client: [email protected] and [email protected] . This will ensure that any emails from Constant Contact or directly from those email clients are not discarded or immediately placed in your spam or junk folders.

If you move, change jobs, and/or update your phone or email addresses, please notify Eric Bruce, President and Acting Secretary, so we have current means of communication to keep you informed of important FOP information and related benefits. If you have any comments or suggestions about the lodge or upcoming events, please notify anyone on the Executive Board.

Members should look for an initial Email from Lodge #7 utilizing Constant Contact in the next day or so. Stay Safe and FOP Strong!!!

The Lucas Foundation and Preventing Law Enforcement Su***de!!

As you know, su***de is the leading cause of death for American law enforcement. The LUCAS Foundation is doing a cross-country 1,000-mile relay run from Atlanta to Detroit from September 23-30, to raise awareness about this critical issue that affects all of us. We'd like your support. Local, state, and federal law enforcement, their peers in the first responder community, and supporters from across the country will run day and night through Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio before finishing in Michigan on September 30 to cap su***de prevention month. The mission of the run is to draw attention to this critical issue. The route consists of 144 legs, most of which begin or end at a police station, sheriff’s office, state police, or federal law enforcement agency location. This will give leaders an opportunity to discuss mental health with their personnel and smash the stigma against seeking help. Our foundation is named after an Atlanta Police Officer who took his life: Lucas Sizemore.

We will be running through 132 miles of Georgia September 23-24. We'd like your support. We need your help to spread the word to Georgia law enforcement and first responders. Kindly share our attached flyer with your members and your broader network.

Runners can register at https://www.lucascrusade.org/relay-segments. We'd love the get a good turnout to support this worthy cause in the Peach State!

FOP Monthly Dinner Meeting:

We will hold our monthly FOP Lodge #7 dinner meeting tonight at the Carey Hilliards Restaurant, 11111 Abercorn, Street, Savannah, GA, with dinner starting at 6pm and the official portion of the meeting starting about 7pm. Come out to enjoy a good meal and fellowship with other members. If you haven't paid your dues for 2025, and there are about 30+ members I have been unable to get in contact with, you are at risk of being placed as inactive which could affect some or all FOP benefits, including the FOP Legal coverage, if you are enrolled. Come out and enjoy our company and pay your dues to remain current. Hope to see you there.

Speaking FOP Legal, if you are an active LEO member, and you don't have the FOP Legal coverage, you should consider it for your safety and the safety of your family, should the unthinkable occur. The basic coverage is $72 a year, not a month, but just one payment a year!! This provides you with comprehensive and possibly unlimited Civil and Criminal protection while performing official LEO duties and some circumstances while off-duty. Full coverage includes Administrative with a total amount of $324 per year. Visit FOPLegal.com for further information.

We are in need of Executive Board members to fill required positions and ensure the continued operation of our Lodge to support our members and our communities. Both the Vice-President and I are working dual positions as Treasurer and Secretary. We are also in need of a 2nd Sergeant at Arms and a Conductor. If you are interested in volunteering as a board member, please reach out or come to the meeting to discuss. There are training opportunities, paid for by the lodge, for anyone interested in Executive Board positions and are usually conducted in Nashville, TN around Feb timeframe. We need your support to keep this lodge going for our members. Thanks.

It is with profound sadness that we must report the passing of a long-time FOP member and a long-time servant to the Law Enforcement community, as well as life in general. Bobby L. Jeter moved to his new home in glory on February 28, 2025. He was 93 and this weekend, he would have been 94. He passed peacefully in his sleep with his wife by his side. Bobby worked at a local "Ma & Pa" grocery store when he was a young man. Working never allowed him to participate in sports or other school activities. However, he was voted "King" (most handsome) of his class. He remarked, "The reason I was voted king was because I worked hard and was able to buy a car; I was the first in my class to own a car." Everybody wanted a ride! His childhood gave him a strong work ethic which helped him during his military service, retiring from the United States Air Force with twenty-three years of dedicated service. Bobby then worked as a detective for the Savannah Police Department, retiring after 20 years. Bobby also worked for the Georgia Ports Authority and finally completed his life-long career in Law Enforcement with Chatham County, before retiring at age 89 just five years ago. Bobby has been a member of the FOP and Lodge #7 since before 1984 as that is as far back as our digital records go, but with a member number of 111, I would venture he was in the lodge much earlier than that and might have been one of the original charter members. He will be greatly missed.

Bobby's life was full of meaning, purpose, and contentment. To know him was to love him. His hobbies included reading, hanging out at the mall with his buddies, playing Scrabble, etc. He enjoyed going to the movies with his wife, Janet and her father, Bob. Not very often did you see Bobby without Janet, there was no place he would rather be than with his wife. They were both devoted to one another. She was his caregiver for five years. Janet stated, "She could not have done it without God's help, Hospice aides, and a few close friends, whose help was invaluable. They became like family".

Bobby Jeter’s funeral/celebration of life service will be held this Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:45 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service. Interment will follow at a later date in Bonaventure Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, 1352 Eisenhower Drive Savannah, GA 31406.

Randy was born in Perry, GA and grew up and graduated from high school in Warner Robbins, GA, before entering the U.S. Army in 1979 and serving until 1982 as a Military Police soldier. He served and retired from the Savannah Police Department as a Star Corporal and then went on to work for Effingham County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff and a Blue Coat in the courthouse. Randy had been an FOP member with Lodge #7 for over 20 years since joining in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward McCurry and Fay Fulford McCurry; and his brother, Terry McCurry. Survivors include his wife, Carla Powers McCurry; son, Stephen Edward McCurry (Wanda Michelle McCurry); grandsons, Colton Edward McCurry and Wyatt Jameson McCurry.

FOP Members, our next monthly meeting will be held tomorrow night at the Carey Hilliards Restaurant, 11111 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA at 6pm. We usually eat first and start the meeting around 7pm. It shouldn't take too long.

Dues are currently overdue for 2025, so if you haven't paid your dues yet, come on out and join us for a friendly dinner, fellowship, and renew your dues. Unfortunately, our online payment system has been down due to a conflict with our lodge name for IRS and the name on our bank account. A request to correct the Tax ID Name with IRS has been submitted and I am hopeful that it will be resolved in the next week or two. If you can't make the meeting, you can mail a check or money order to Mobley-Giles-Willis Lodge #7, Fraternal Order of Police, PO Box 60805, Savannah, GA 31420. $60 for active LEO's and $30 for retired.

I emailed a letter to everyone at the beginning of November with the Renewal Form that is required. Check your spam folder's if you didn't receive it. If you didn't receive it, its possible that I don't have a correct email for you. Contact me at [email protected] to update your contact info. If you don't have the form and you mail your dues, I will forward you the form individually so you can complete and return.

Reminder: Monthly meeting, tomorrow night, Tuesday, 14 Jan 2025, Carey Hilliards, Abercorn St in Savannah, GA, 6pm. We hope to see you there.
