Who is Robbie Smart, the Halifax County VA Board of Supervisors, District 5 Supervisor...
I am a sixth-generation Halifax County native, a retired Air Force and Civil Service veteran, and a resident of Scottsburg, Virginia. I currently serve as Vice Chairman of the Halifax County Board of Supervisors. This is my second term, to which I was elected for a four-year term from January 2024 through December 2027.
I graduated from Halifax County High School, Danville Community College, and Old Dominion University, where I studied mechanical engineering. I alternated between military and civilian careers until retiring in 2018.
My military service included six years on active duty in the Air Force as a B-52 Navigator/Bombardier and six years as an Air Force Intelligence Officer. During that time, I logged more than 170 combat flying hours in Desert Storm and served in intelligence assignments supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. I completed my final eight years of military service in the reserves, including my last assignment on the National Military Command Center staff at the Pentagon.
Alongside my military service, I spent about 10 years working as an engineer, primarily in building products manufacturing, including four years at Huber Engineered Woods in Crystal Hill. During the final 12 years of my civilian career, I worked for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in Springfield, Virginia, as a Senior Imagery Source Intelligence Analyst.
I am married to the former Patricia Martin of Clover. Together we have one adult daughter, Stephanie Elliot; a son-in-law, Mitch Elliot; and eight grandchildren. We also remember our late son, Jonathan, and late daughter, Christie.
My family and I actively volunteer with and support many charitable organizations. I currently serve as President of Halifax County Good Samaritans, which provides food and clothing to those in need. I am also a member and former Deacon of Scottsburg Baptist Church, former Treasurer of the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department, and a life member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In the past, I also served with the Halifax County Volunteer Rescue Squad and as Virginia State Captain and National President of the Patriot Guard Riders, a motorcycle group that supports military funeral services.
Born and raised in Halifax County, I was taught the values of hard work and community service by my father, a postal employee, and my mother, a social worker. I have tried to carry those values forward throughout four decades of professional and volunteer service.
