We’re seeing an uptick in organized contractor‑fraud scams across our area. These individuals pose as legitimate home‑repair companies, complete with logos, trucks, and generic contracts. They typically approach residents with offers to “fix” chimneys or other structural issues, request large upfront payments (often via cashier’s check), and then perform minimal or poor‑quality work while pressuring victims for more money. Many victims are left with unfinished projects and significant financial loss.
If you encounter suspicious contractors, document everything, avoid paying upfront, and report the incident immediately. Thorough documentation helps investigators connect cases and stop these scams.
