Youth in foster care want agency over their own lives. We know this, because they tell us! Keeping youth engaged throughout their time in foster care is pivotal in letting them feel like they have some control, and it helps them be able to build trusting relationships with adults.

Each year, the Children’s Bureau develops a theme for national foster care month. This year’s theme highlights the need to create a child welfare system that authentically engages and supports young people who are preparing to leave foster care.
