The Census Bureau is considering changes to the 2030 Census that could change who gets counted and eliminate questions about race and ethnicity.

An accurate Census helps determine political representation and how billions of dollars are distributed for schools, health care, housing, transportation, and other community services.

Recent changes under H.R. 1 are affecting food assistance and other public benefit programs, creating new questions and challenges for many individuals and families.

While we're encouraged by a recent court injunction that is preserving Medicaid coverage and long-term care services for 1,200 Washingtonians, that ruling addresses only part of the broader changes. Many community members may still be affected by updates to food assistance and other benefits.

If you have questions about your benefits, need help understanding how these changes affect you and your family, or want help finding resources, Neighborhood House is here to help.

Access matters. USCIS is considering a proposal that could pave the way for online-only filing of some immigration forms in the future, including the naturalization application. For many community members, especially older adults and those facing language, technology, or internet access barriers, a digital-only process could make citizenship and immigration services harder to access.

We appreciate KING 5's coverage of the impact federal Medicaid cuts are having on Washington families and communities. Our Executive Director, Janice Deguchi, spoke about the preliminary injunction that is helping protect long-term services for approximately 1,200 Washingtonians while our case moves forward. The fight isn't over, but this is an important step for the people who depend on these services every day.

I just attended a federal court hearing that gave me a feeling that has been in short supply: hope for our immigrant neighbors.
