Western Massachusetts, it's time to rise to action for the Quabbin!
For generations, our communities have stewarded one of the Commonwealth's most precious natural resources. Now, we must come together once again to protect its future.
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is seeking approval to withdraw an additional 20 million gallons of water per day from the Quabbin, without identifying which communities would receive that water.
The Interbasin Transfer Act requires applications to identify the recipients of proposed water transfers, and we cannot allow it to be subverted.
I've made my position clear: Any additional withdrawal must undergo a full, transparent, community-specific review.
Now, we need your voices, too!
The public comment period has been extended until October 28, and I'm calling on residents across Western Massachusetts to make their voices heard.
Please take a few minutes today to email:
* Energy and Environmental Affairs Sec. Rebecca Tepper: [email protected] and
* WRC Executive Director Vandana Rao: [email protected]
Urge the Water Resources Commission to reject advance approval of this request without a complete review. Encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to speak up, too.
Our communities have sacrificed too much to be left out of decisions about the Quabbin's future. Let's stand together as stewards of this incredible resource and make sure Western Massachusetts is heard!
