Creativity took center stage as our SLPS art scholars shone at the Shaw Art Fair on October 10–11! 🎨

Students shared and sold their artwork, led interactive activities, and brought music and creativity to attendees from across the region.

• Mullanphy displayed self-portraits, outdoor garden drawings, Starry Night pastel drawings, and “Art in Motion” paper collages.
• McKinley High School showcased work by 32 students in grades 9–12, featuring painting, fiber arts, cardboard relief, oil pastel drawings, and independent portfolio projects.
• Betty Wheeler displayed artwork from PreK–5th grade students exploring Pop Art, Op Art, and Abstract Art.
• Central VPA helped welcome visitors with entrance gates designed and built by two students. Alongside visual art displays, the band, drumline, and guitar ensemble shared their talents through live performances.

We are proud of our scholars and the educators who help them turn their ideas into art. Thank you for bringing our creativity into the community!

Public school didn’t just educate us. It helped build us.

It taught us how to overcome challenges, embrace differences, think critically, collaborate, and lead with purpose.

The lessons we learned weren’t limited to textbooks or classrooms. They became the foundation for how we navigate life, build relationships, pursue opportunities, and contribute to our communities.

Today, we proudly wear “Public School Made Me” as a reminder of the lasting impact public education has had on our lives and the responsibility we share to create those same opportunities for future generations.

Different journeys. Shared foundation. Endless possibilities.

Superintendent Dr. Myra Michelle Berry joined KMOX to discuss Future Ready SLPS and the work underway to build a stronger, more sustainable future for students across Saint Louis Public Schools.

In the conversation, Dr. Berry shares more about how the district developed the proposal, why high schools served as a starting point and what the proposed changes could mean for students and families across SLPS.

Listen to the full conversation with KMOX:

Dr Myra Berry is the Superintendent of the St Louis Public Schools. 'Future Ready SLPS' is the name of the plan to consolidate schools in the district. They took a very large look at the district, and 'we worked backwards' starting with the high schools, which Berry called the 'core' of the distri.....

It’s been an exciting week for SLPS performing arts students! 🎶
McKinley High School choral students joined singers from across the St. Louis region at the Acappellooza Fall Festival on the UMSL campus. They learned from Dr. James Henry, sang alongside fellow young musicians and enjoyed a live concert at the Touhill Performing Arts Center.
We’re also celebrating five SLPS students admitted to the Bayer Fund Artists-in-Training Program at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis! Through the program, they’ll receive private voice lessons, learn from professional artists and perform in public recitals.

🎤 Soren Carroll — McKinley Classical Academy
🎤 Chloe Martin — Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience
🎤 Madison Moore — Central VPA

A huge thank you to United Way of Greater St. Louis and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP for their generous donation of 100 Pocket Pals for our students!

Some of our younger learners received a Pocket Pal that includes a board book and a cuddly stuffed animal. Seeing the excitement and smiles on students' faces as they received these special gifts was truly heartwarming.

We are so grateful for community partners who invest in our students and help foster a love of reading while providing comfort and encouragement. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of SLPS students!
