We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected loss of Chief Joseph Baccellieri, Jr., Commanding Officer and Chief of Training at the New York State Court Officers Academy.

For more than 40 years, Chief Baccellieri devoted himself to the New York State Unified Court System, influencing and guiding the development of countless court officers throughout the state. Under his leadership, the Academy grew into one of New York’s most demanding and highly regarded law enforcement training institutions, molding individuals from diverse backgrounds into cohesive, disciplined, and mission-focused officers.

His leadership, and steadfast dedication to excellence will continue to be reflected in every officer who passes through the Academy.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, his colleagues, and the entire court community. We share in your sorrow.

For us here at the Columbia Society, he was a tireless supporter, with us from the very beginning. He was someone we could lean on when seeking advice or assistance with any matter

His legacy will endure in the institution he helped build and the people he inspired.

When the Latino Court Officers Society and the Columbia Society come together, there’s always a turn-up moment 🎉 but more importantly, it’s a reflection of unity, culture, and shared purpose.

A special thank you to Capt. Jessica Hernandez, President of the Latino Court Officers Society. Not only did she deliver a powerful performance singing our National Anthem, but she continues to be a driving force behind countless extracurricular initiatives that bring people together.

Her membership in the Columbia Society and her unwavering dedication to helping those in need are truly valued and deeply appreciated.

Through his commitment to the NYS Courts Explorers Program, he continues to mentor, guide, and inspire the next generation.
