Here are some photos from last night's data center protest. About 300 people protested outside while 85 were allowed inside. Shamefully, just before midnight, the Hermantown City Council unanimously voted for the data center. Thank you to everyone who turned out. Among the groups represented at the protest were Stop the Hermantown Data Center, Native Lives Matter Coalition, Northwoods Against Surveillance, Duluth 50501, Twin Ports Democratic Socialists of America, Anti Imperialist Action Twin Ports, USW Local 9460 and Northwoods Socialist Collective. Despite the Council vote, this fight is not over. The Struggle continues!

United Steelworkers held informational pickets today in both Eveleth on the Iron Range, and in Negaunee in the Upper Peninsula. Both pickets called out Cleveland-Cliffs for refusing to agree to a fair contract. The union has been engaged in tough contract negotiations for months.

Come on over to Hermantown City Hall when you get a chance. There's free food, gorgeous weather, and awesome folks to hang out with. Folks have been lining up to speak against the data center since noon. City Council mtg starts at 6:30pm.

Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham made the following statement in support of Michael and Susan Pretti’s calls for accountability in their son’s shooting:

“Solidarity is at the core of everything unions stand for. Alex Pretti was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees showing solidarity with his immigrant neighbors when federal agents fatally shot him on January 24 in Minneapolis.

“Alex’s parents have every right to feel outraged over the federal government’s stonewalling and refusal to share evidence with local law enforcement as they seek justice for their son’s murder.

“Minnesota’s Labor Movement calls on the Justice Department to fully cooperate with state and local authorities investigating Alex’s murder and deliver the justice his family and Minnesotans deserve.”

Here are some photos from the Stop the Data Center protest that was held in downtown Duluth this afternoon. It was organized by an awesome group of local high school students. The response from passing motorists and pedestrians was overwhelming positive!

FYI, the Hermantown City Council has rescheduled their meeting for this Friday at 6:30pm. We recommend that folks get there early to sign up to speak and to touch base with other folks. Keep up the good fight!

Opponents of the proposed Hermantown Data Center were prevented from speaking last night by the City Council, which led to mass chants that caused the whole meeting to be shut down. The meeting had been rescheduled for today, but that too has now been cancelled as the politicians in the pocket of Google re-group to figure out what to do next.
