Screven County Jr/Sr Board Spotlight:

Hello. My name is Clara Whitworth. I am honored to serve as the President of the Junior Board. I am an 8th grader at Screven County Middle School and this is my 4th year to participate in 4-H. In my opinion, 4-H is the best program for the students in our county.

I have participated in many club activities and competitions through 4-H. Every month, the Junior and Senior Board and Teen Leaders host fun club activities for Cloverleaf 4-Hers. Next month, we will be hosting a Fall Festival. Some of the competitions available to members include Cotton Boll and Consumer Judging, Sh***un Team, Poultry Judging, Horse Judging, and Livestock Judging to name a few. There are also competitions that include food safety and preparation. 4-H literally has some activity that suits everyone’s interests.

My favorite activity I look forward to every year is summer camp. This past year, the Junior camp was held at Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island. We did fun activities like dissecting a shark, swimming in the ocean, marsh ecology, fun recreational activities, and so much more!. My favorite part of the camp was all the life long friends I made from all over the state! I have stayed in contact with many of them since camp and cannot wait to attend Junior Conference and DPA this year so I can see them.

The opportunities I have had through 4-H have not only allowed me to meet LOTS of new friends from all over the state, but have also taught me leadership skills and have given me the confidence to speak in front of others. I have also had opportunities to explore different areas of GA by attending camps and conferences. I urge all of my peers to join 4-H and take advantage of all of it has to offer!

Screven County Jr/Sr Board Spotlight: Senior Board President, Jala Baxley

Hi! My name is Jala Baxley, and I am a senior at Screven Christian Academy. I have been an active member in 4-H for almost four years now. Some of my favorite activities in 4-H are Horse Club, Horse Judging, Fall Forum, Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging, Senior Conference, and of course District Project Achievement (or DPA for short)! But those are only a small part of the many activities and opportunities that Screven 4-H offers.

One of my favorite things about 4-H is that there is always something for everyone to enjoy! If you're a horse person, we have Horse Club, Horse Judging, and Horse Quiz Bowl. If you're into art, there is a Christmas Card Contest. If you have a hobby or lifestyle choice you're passionate about, try DPA, where you get to build a project on your topic of choice! There are so many options to choose from with 4-H!

Another reason to join 4-H is the friends you make and the bonds you build. Some of the closest friends I have are people I met at a 4-H event. They are people I know I can count on, and if I need advice, a resource for information, or just someone to talk to, I know I can reach out and they will be there!

So if you want a place to have fun afterschool, somewhere to meet new people, or activities that look good on college applications, 4-H is the place for you! And if you're still not convinced, come talk to me or contact our agent, Meghan Waller!

Meet Dallas Gaines, Senior at Screven County High and 26-27 Southeast District Board Vice President. He is a very talented Clovers & Company instrumentalist that shines on stage. He enjoys 4-H because it gives so many learning and public speaking opportunities as well as chances to become a leader and meet tons of friends! We are grateful to know Dallas and to have his kindness and enthusiasm be part of 4-H!

It's a fun way to share your interests, grow your confidence, and step outside your comfort zone! The Screven 4-H office is here to help you navigate the process!

Join us at our office, Thursday, August 27th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. to learn more. This meeting is for anyone interested in learning more about Project Achievement or planning to compete this year. We hope you and your family will join us!
