We love seeing our clients thrive. Here's how advocacy makes a difference:A family came to us overwhelmed — their mother needed support to remain safely at home, but they didn't know where to start. We helped them:•Connect with OAA-funded home-delivered meal services•Arrange transportation for medical appointments•Access homemaker services for household tasks•Enroll in a chronic disease self-management program•Apply for additional benefits they didn't know existedToday, their mother is thriving at home — independent, nourished, and connected to her community. This is what senior care advocacy looks like. How can we help your family?

⚠️⚠️ If you or someone you love is on Medicaid — please read this.
Right now, Congress has passed a law that cuts nearly $1 TRILLION from Medicaid over the next 10 years. That's not a typo.
Here's what that means in plain English for seniors and caregivers:
✅ Medicaid pays for 6 out of every 10 nursing home residents. If your mom or dad is in a nursing home — there's a very real chance Medicaid is covering that bill.
✅ 12 million seniors have BOTH Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare covers doctor visits and hospital stays — but it does NOT cover long-term care, dental, vision, or in-home help. Medicaid fills those gaps. Cuts to Medicaid mean those gaps get bigger.
✅ New work requirement rules are creating paperwork barriers that could knock eligible seniors OFF coverage — even when they still qualify. The system makes mistakes. And those mistakes have real consequences.
✅ On top of that, programs like LIHEAP (help with energy bills), AmeriCorps Seniors, and the Senior Community Service Employment Program are all on the chopping block.
🔑 What you can do right now:
— Call 1-800-MEDICARE if you receive a confusing notice
— Contact your local SHIP counselor (it's FREE) for help reviewing your coverage
— Reach out to your Area Agency on Aging to understand what local services may be affected
— And if you're in Florida — call Dare2Care Advocates. This is exactly what we do.
You should NOT have to figure this out alone. These systems are complicated on purpose. That's why advocates exist.
Share this with a family member or neighbor who needs to know. 💙

but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear

Behind every older adult aging well, there's often a family caregiver making it possible. The OAA recognizes this through the National Family Caregiver Support Program.
This program provides:
Information about available services
Assistance in accessing support
Individual counseling and support groups
Training to help with caregiving tasks
Respite care — temporary relief from caregiving duties
In 2021, the program served 779,000 caregivers and provided over 4.9 million hours of temporary relief.
If you're a caregiver, know that support exists. You don't have to do this alone.
