Sylvia A. Alvarez During National Homeownership Month ๐ก
As Tampa Bay families continue facing high mortgage rates, inflation, rising costs, and uncertainty in the housing market, Sylvia A. Alvarez, CEO of Housing & Education Alliance, continues to be a powerful and trusted voice for homebuyers and working families.
In a recent Spectrum News feature, Sylvia A. Alvarez reminded buyers that waiting is not always the best strategy:
โIf you can qualify, buy a house now.โ
Her message is clear: while todayโs market is challenging, homeownership remains possible with education, preparation, and trusted guidance.
For decades, Sylvia A. Alvarez has dedicated her work to helping families understand the homebuying process, access down payment assistance, and move toward long-term housing stability.
This National Homeownership Month, we honor her continued leadership, advocacy, and commitment to keeping the dream of homeownership alive.

Iโm excited to be part of this monthโs รxito Session, where weโll be having an important conversation on what it really takes to build pathways to Latino homeownership.
This isnโt just about buying homes. Itโs about access, education, and creating opportunities that help families move forward with confidence.
Iโll be joining Daisy Leyva and moderator Laura Aguiar Diaz as we talk through housing access, financial literacy, down payment assistance, and how stronger partnerships across our industry can create real impact in the communities we serve.
This series was created to bring together professionals who care about doing the work and doing it better. If youโre in real estate, lending, community outreach, or simply passionate about expanding access to homeownership, this conversation is for you.

This Motherโs Day, HEA is honored to celebrate Ann Betz, a Pasco County resident and Mother, with a special flower delivery from Sylvia Alvarez, HEAโs Executive Director. For many years, Sylvia has carried a heartfelt tradition of choosing one mother to honor on Motherโs Day in memory of her own Mother, whom she deeply misses. Sylvia says she does this since she can't give her Mother flowers any more she chooses to honor a Mother that needs some appreciation and cheering up.
This year, Ann was chosen because of her remarkable strength, courage, and resilience. Behind her smile is a powerful story of hardship and struggle. After Hurricane Milton flooded her home,
Ann and her family lost their belongings, were forced to leave, and struggled to find safe housing. Through Pasco County's ESG rental assistance and housing stabilization program administered by HEA, Ann was able to take an important step toward safety, stability, and hope for her and her family. Ann is under hospice home care and we are working with her and her family providing support and finding options and resources for them.
She was so thankful and said no one had ever done anything so nice for her. Annโs story reminds us that every act of kindness matters โ and that supporting one family can help restore dignity, comfort, and hope when they need it most. She was so thankful and said no one had ever done anything so nice for her.
Happy Motherโs Day! Honoring resilience, celebrating love, and restoring hope โ one family at a time.
