Saturday Morning Sanity Check: Be empathic, not sympathetic.

To be clear, many of us think we have it, but we often confuse sympathy for empathy.

Maya Angelou once said, "I think we all have empathy. We may not have enough courage to display it."

Empathy is the ability to understand things from another person's perspective. It's the ability to share someone else's feelings and emotions and understand why they're having those issues.

Putting yourself in another’s person shoes to understand how they view and approach life can be vital in helping them solve all their problems. Bottom line, just be there and care. It’s that simple. 💯💯💯

Hurricane Agatha is no longer a hurricane, but we are watching the storm reform over the gulf. Currently, we're only projecting 25 knot winds late Friday or early Saturday. We expect an updated forecast later today.

First, If you are new to the area, now is the time to prepare, and one of the most important things you can do is to bookmark this page. As storms approach, this site will have the most reliable information for MacDill AFB employees and family members. It also allows us to answer your questions directly in a timely manner. You do not need a Facebook account to view this page, but if you have questions, then you will need an account.

Next, gather your supplies now. If you wait until the storm is a couple days away, supplies may not be available. You're not sure what supplies you need? No worries, we have a website just for you....see below.

Last, if you take nothing else away from our website, please learn the HURCON system. This is your first notice that something is brewing over the ocean. When we go to HURCON 5, we are 4 days away from a hurricane over MacDill...if our hurricane projections are correct. Hurricanes sometime seem like they have a mind of their own. In 2016, Hurricane Irma was supposed to have minimum impact on MacDill, then 48 hours before landfall, it takes a left turn and heads directly for MacDill. Long story short, hurricances are unpredictable, so you need to have a plan before you think you need one.
