IMPORTANT NOTICE: New Asylum Fee Rules (USCIS)

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced new requirements related to the Annual Asylum Fee (AAF).

What you need to know:
If you have a pending asylum application, you are now required to pay an annual fee while your case is pending.

Consequences of not paying on time:
• If the fee is not paid within 30 days after notification,
USCIS may reject your asylum application
• If you do not have legal status,
removal (deportation) proceedings may be initiate.

• Additionally:
USCIS may deny any pending Form I-765 (work permit) based on the asylum case
If you already have a work permit, you may lose it automatically

Important Date:
These new rules go into effect on May 29, 2026

ATENCIÓN: Nuevas reglas para solicitudes de asilo (USCIS)

El Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) ha anunciado nuevas medidas relacionadas con el pago de la tarifa anual de asilo (AAF).

¿Qué debes saber?
Si tienes una solicitud de asilo pendiente, ahora debes pagar una tarifa anual mientras tu caso esté en proceso.

Consecuencias de no pagar a tiempo:
• Si no se paga dentro de los 30 días después de la notificación,
USCIS puede rechazar tu solicitud de asilo
• Si no tienes estatus legal,
pueden iniciar procesos de deportación
• También:
Se puede denegar cualquier permiso de trabajo (I-765)

Si ya tienes permiso de trabajo, puedes perderlo automáticamente
Fecha importante:
Estas nuevas reglas entran en vigor el 29 de mayo de 2026.

Desde el 1 de enero de 2026, Cuba está incluida en una lista de restricciones parciales de viaje de EE.UU.
Esto NO es una prohibición total, pero sí puede causar demoras y revisiones adicionales en procesos consulares.

¿A quién puede afectar?
• Esposos/as de ciudadanos americanos
• Hijos menores de 21 años de ciudadanos americanos
• Padres de ciudadanos americanos

Estos procesos siguen siendo permitidos, pero ya no tienen una excepción automática y se evalúan caso por caso, especialmente en el consulado.

Qué NO afecta:
