If you test positive for ANY STD be proactive and "request" an HIV test. After all, HIV and other STDs are transmitted the same way.
HIV testing should be included with routine STD testing that is conducted during most healthcare encounters. If you are tested for STDs but not HIV, ask your provider why!
Planning on starting a family?
Get tested! Do it together. Your baby's life depends on it.
There is no cure for HIV. Protect your baby, get tested before you get pregnant. Get tested at your first prenatal care visit and again at 27 weeks. Knowing your status gives YOU the power!
In Florida, if you are pregnant, doctors routinely test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, HIV and syphilis at your first prenatal visit and again after 27 weeks. If you go to the hospital in labor, without a documented test after 27 weeks, you will be rapid tested when you are admitted.
You have the right to refuse but it is important to know and understand that if you have HIV and do not get treatment there is a 25-30% chance of passing the virus to your baby.
With testing and treatment there is less than 2% chance of having an infected baby.
Know your status. Get tested!
WE HAVE THE POWER to make a difference. Get tested!
Reducing the number of HIV infected babies born in Florida is essential to the well being of our state as a whole. Everyone can play a role in this by getting tested. Know your status, it's not just about you.
