WOMEN OF GHANA, IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN!

Dear Women of Ghana, 67 years after independence, Ghana has never had a female Vice President.

Yet, the NPP leader in parliament, Mr. Afenyo Markin mounts a stage to argue that we should vote a Muslim candidate who has been a VP President for 8 years as President because it will be the first time.

Another Muslim cleric is heard telling Muslims to vote for the NPP candidate because ‘if not now, then when’.

Dear women, fathers of daughters, husbands and brothers, in the same vein- IF NOT NOW FOR WOMEN, THEN WHEN!

Do women not deserve to become Vice President, just as Muslim men have been able to break that glass ceiling twice?

Equity and fair representation requires we give previously under represented populations opportunities to be amplified.

I am a Muslim and a Woman, a mother of two boys and two girls, and I think it is time for a competent woman, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to also break the VP glass ceiling!

My boys have seen that ‘it is possible’, my girls need to also see that ‘it is possible’ for a woman to become a Vice President.

I look forward to the day that a person with a disability can also aspire to lead this country at its highest levels. That is how we build a cohesive society, one step at a time.

It is time for women. Women are in the majority in Ghana, Let us make it happen.
