Hey folks, I hope y’all had safe travels made it home safely following our 2026 fall Mantrailing Nationals in Harpers Ferry. I want to share a report I received this evening from AMPWDA Trainer Mike Webb who many of you trained with last week, in reference to a search that he and K-9 Arlo were activated for today and this is exactly the reason why we do:
Report from Mike:
On October 20, 2026 at approximately 1350 hours Washington County dispatch received a 911 call from a missing hiker. The victim said that she had been hiking off of Clarks Creek Rd and had gotten turned around in the woods and did not know where she was at. The victim said that she had been hiking for approximately 2.5 hours when she got turned around in the woods. Eventually she found a spot near a creek bed with just enough cellular service to place the 911 call. Dispatchers were able to get a general area of the victim and relay it to patrol officers in the area. Deputies were able to locate her vehicle at the Sill Branch Falls Trail head. Deputies secured the scene and requested the assistance of K9 Arlo, a certified mantrailing bloodhound to assist in locating the hiker. At 1442 hours a scent article was retrieved from the victim's Vehicle and place at the trail head. K9 Arlo was presented the article of clothing and put to work. K9 Arlo quickly located the scent on the trail and began working up the mountain. After following the trail for approximately a half of a mile, Arlo was able to locate the victim. . She was uninjured and escorted back to the trailhead.
Please join us and congratulating him and Arlo on a job well done.
