Clear Ridge Nursery, Inc. We are a MBE / DBE Certified Wholesale Nursery. The Nursery is located in Carroll County, Maryland (USDA Hardiness Zone 6B).

We specialize in growing container established native trees and shrubs for conservation projects. Our inventory includes over 350,000 native trees and shrubs covering 70+ species. We can also supply a long list of ornamental plants ranging in size from 1 qt up to B&B as well as tree shelters, stakes, chain lock, etc. We are also a regional distributor of Bio-Comp Soil. Fall is pretty glorious this season! We had a light frost in some spots over the weekend and now temps are up again, there is a light breeze, sunshine and blue skies...Our native species do not skip a beat - The trees look A-M-A-Z-ING and are starting to change colors and its pretty magical!

While it's been quiet on the 'gram, it has been anything but quiet at the Nursery! Our amazing crew has been hard at work growing amazing crops of Native trees and shrubs all season long, and we are now deep into shipping season. We have a dedicated crew who drive around the Nursery pulling orders (and usually blasting dance music🕺) and then the trees are held in our holding area and hand watered while they wait for pickup. It is a well-choreographed system!
We ship Natives all over the Mid-Atlantic, into PA and Ohio, the East Coast and New England.

We love a Native with multi-season interest! Bottlebrush Buckeye are putting on their fall show here at the Nursery and we are here for it! This is a plant we start from seed we collect (just finished our 2026 seed harvest in fact, today!) and grow on for sale in 5 and 7 gallon sizes. Why do we love it?
🌿Pollinator haven in July! The bees and butterflies love the spiky, creamy flowers
🌿They make an excellent choice for a hedge, border or an understory
🌿High deer resistance! We have them all over both farms and the deer (and birds) use them for shelter but don't seem to munch on them.

We trim all of our trees to encourage strong leaders, proper form, and overall plant health. By giving them plenty of room to grow tall and wide, each tree develops a fuller, healthier shape. That means when you plant it, its on its way to looking its best.

Let's talk about Sweetbay Magnolia (Magnolia Virginiana)!

Who doesn’t love a Magnolia?! This is a lovely deciduous / semi-evergreen ornamental tree that stays on the smaller side, growing between 20’ - 30' tall and 15' wide in the Maryland region (taller in the South). Sweetbays do best in moist, acidic & rich soils but will tolerate wet, swampy and boggy soils. They offer interesting form with leaves that are glossy and dark green with a silver underside that you will notice in a breeze -- and let's talk about those flowers! The fragrant & large showy white blooms open during the day and close at night for a few days at a time, and have a long blooming “season” (May-June). They give way to an interesting cone-like fruit whose seeds turn bold red and are enjoyed by songbirds.

Fun fact – Sweetbay Magnolia has the nickname “Beaver Tree” because Beavers love the roots and so early American colonists used the roots to bait their traps.

What a difference a few weeks makes! Our Sycamore are growing quickly, as they do - both above ground and below! We grow these plants with plenty of space between each tree so they can reach out, up and down. They are healthy and happy - and plentiful.
