The upcoming close of the 21-22 school year will be a bittersweet one for me .
With over 22 years at the Champaign County Sheriff's Office and 17 of those years as the School Resource Officer of Unit #7 (Unity) and Heritage school districts, I am retiring at the end of this school year.
As I've said on multiple occasions, the SRO position has been the most gratifying and rewarding part of my law enforcement career.
Call it lucky or blessed, I have been very fortunate to have worked along side an outstanding board of education and administrative teams which has helped make this position so worthwhile. But at the end of the day, the quality kids that make up these student bodies year after year are what made this job so fulfilling.
It will be a period of adjustment not seeing the faculties, staff, and especially the students daily.
Unity East/West, the shout outs, fist bumps, high fives, and occasional autographs will certainly be missed.
It has been a privilege.

Well here it is. After a two year pause thanks to Covid, the Champaign Co. Sheriff's Office EXPLORER program is officially underway.
Explorers offers young adults a personal awareness of the criminal justice system through training, practical experiences, competition, and other activities. The program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship, and patriotism.
If you have a teen that has completed 8th grade through 20 yrs old and is interested in the criminal justice system contact Officer Franzen at Unity High School or call the Sheriff's Office for more information and an application.

From Champaign Co Highway Department
Due to the forecasted high winds and white out conditions tonight the Champaign County Highway Department will cease plow operations from 6:00 PM Wednesday until 6:00 AM Thursday. At 6:00 AM Thursday we will assess the situation in the daylight and determine our path forward. Based on information we have received from the National Weather Service winds will continue to gust at 35 MPH to 40 MPH throughout the day tomorrow. It’s unlikely that road conditions will improve until sometime Friday when the winds are forecasted to be in the 10 to 15 MPH range. Please only travel if absolutely necessary. We will have plows stationed throughout the county overnight to aid in emergency calls if needed.
