Congratulations to Cadet Jesse Jones on graduating from Cadet Summer Training!

Cadet Jones attended 7th Regiment as a member of Delta Company, where he demonstrated strong leadership and versatility throughout training. During CST, he served in the following leadership positions:

Garrison:
• Company Commander (CO)
• Platoon Leader (PL)
• Platoon Sergeant (PSG)

Field:
• Platoon Leader (PL)
• Squad Leader (2 evaluations)
• Radio-Telephone Operator (RTO)

When asked about the highlight of his CST experience, Cadet Jones shared:

“My highlight of camp was getting to work with all different types of cultures, personalities, and leaders that I will even work with in the future. Being a big-time ruck runner, I enjoyed the 6- and 12-mile rucks. Land navigation and the field were my favorite parts about camp. Every moment we were able to be one with nature, I was in my happy place, especially with being around great people.”

CST provides cadets with the opportunity to develop their leadership abilities while working alongside future Army officers from across the country. Cadet Jones took full advantage of that experience, embracing the challenges of the field, developing his leadership skills, and building relationships that will continue well beyond camp.

Congratulations again, Cadet Jones! We are proud of your accomplishment and excited to see you continue your journey toward becoming an Army Officer.

Congratulations to Nathan Harville on graduating from Basic Camp!

Cadet Harville attended 1st Regiment as a member of Alpha Company, where he represented the University of the Cumberlands Army ROTC program with professionalism and determination. During Basic Camp, he served in the following leadership positions:

• Platoon Leader (2 evaluations)
• Squad Leader

When asked about the highlight of his camp experience, Cadet Harville shared that the Field Training Exercise (FTX) was his favorite experience, providing opportunities to challenge himself, work alongside fellow cadets, and develop his confidence as a leader.

When asked about the hardest part of Basic Camp, Cadet Harville said the rappel wall was the most challenging event. Stepping backward over the edge while trusting his equipment, training, and instructors made it one of the biggest mental obstacles he had to overcome.

When reflecting on his time at Basic Camp, Cadet Harville emphasized the importance of approaching every day with a willingness to learn. His advice for future cadets preparing to attend Basic Camp was simple:

“Be a sponge.”

He encourages future cadets to absorb as much knowledge and experience as possible, remain open to feedback, ask questions, and take advantage of every training opportunity. The more effort a cadet puts into learning from instructors and peers, the more they will grow as a leader.

Basic Camp is a four-week introduction to Army ROTC that prepares future cadets by building a foundation in Army values, leadership, teamwork, land navigation, physical fitness, and tactical skills. It is designed to develop confidence, resilience, and the leadership potential needed to succeed in the ROTC program and beyond.

Congratulations again, Cadet Harville! We are proud of your accomplishment and excited to see you continue your journey toward becoming an Army Officer.
