This week the IAFF of Illinois hosted their annual legislation conference at the BOS center here in Springfield. Members of our local 37 as well as hundreds of others from around the state gathered to learn about what legislation our IAFF leaders believe to be most the important issues today.

We spent the week hearing more about what bills are currently being voted on, what issues we will need to correct in then future, and who we can contact in government to help us to make an impact.

It wasn’t all serious, there was plenty of time time socialize and meet with other members around the state. The opening night event was held at our local 37 union hall, better know as Firefighter Postal Lake Club and Wednesday night was held at the union station down town with support from local 2 out of Chicago.

We learned about issues and had fun with other members around the state but more importantly we were able to meet with legislators in our state districts to garner support on specific bills we believe need attention now. LegCon 2026 was a huge success and we at local 37 can’t wait for 2027.

What started out as a cold stormy morning for dive training turned in to a beautiful one for perfecting the craft. The SFD dive team worked on underwater searches while some of the newer members practiced entering the water off of the boat fully dressed and ready for action!
