Today, we welcomed our 11th boy into a home that, earlier this year, we almost closed.
At one point, we were down to just one boy in this home. The house needed a complete rebuild—physically, operationally, and culturally. And honestly, it would have been easier to look at the numbers and decide it wasn’t worth it. But we knew better.
Because this work has never been about numbers.
We stopped checking boxes.
We stopped saying yes to every referral.
We stopped treating every employment application as simply another person to fill a position.
Instead, we became deliberate.
Deliberate about who we welcome into our homes.
Deliberate about who we welcome onto our teams.
Deliberate about leadership.
Deliberate about relationships.
Deliberate about looking at every child through a trauma-informed lens and asking, What does this child need from us to begin healing?
We kept amazing staff.
We brought in more amazing staff.
We rebuilt leadership.
We repaired and transformed the physical space.
But the biggest transformation can't be measured in renovations.
It's the vibe of the house.
It's the smiles on our kids' faces.
It's the personalized bedrooms that feel like their spaces.
It's the structure and reward systems that give our boys something to work toward.
It's the enrichment, the laughter, the camaraderie.
It's staff supporting one another—and staff from one home supporting the staff and kids in another.
It's watching kids who came to us carrying so much begin to experience something different.
A sense of belonging.
A sense of pride.
A sense that they matter.
Today, welcoming our 11th boy wasn't just another admission. It was a reminder of how far this home has come. From almost closing…to becoming a home we are incredibly proud of. This is what happens when we stop checking boxes and start changing outcomes.
This is EverForward. 💙
