🔎I spy with my little eye something green. Can you see her?

On the disk of this sunflower sits a tiny green metallic bee hard at work. She’s one of our many native bee species. Unlike honeybees, she doesn’t sting because she doesn’t make honey, and she doesn’t live in a hive. She actually lives underground, where she builds little rooms for herself and her eggs.

She’s a single mom gathering pollen. Once she’s full, she’ll head back to her burrow to make small lumps of bee bread for each egg. That will feed her young until they’re ready to emerge.

Native bees are a huge deal for our ecosystem because they evolved with the plants that grow here. They know exactly how to pollinate our local landscape.

The Kind Mind 5 are simple habits you can use to take care of your mental health every day.

Move your body to release stress, rest to recharge so you can focus, fuel your mind with foods that help you feel your best, spread some good to boost your sense of purpose, and stay connected with people who support you.

Everyone’s self-care looks different. What would you add to your own “Kind Mind” list? Share something that works for you in the comments.

Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Take a moment to pause and breathe 🙏.
The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique can help bring you back to the present and steady your mind.

5 things you can see 👀
4 things you can touch ✋
3 things you can hear 👂
2 things you can smell 👃
1 thing you can taste (or imagine tasting) 😋

The more overwhelmed we feel, the more support we may need. That can mean leaning on friends, talking with family, or reaching out for professional help.

Student Support Services offers no cost support for youth and young adults 25 and under. Connect to care at [email protected] or https://tricitymhs.org/our-services/mental-health-services/mhssa.
