So great to be out at early voting today working side by side with my friends Robin, Devin, Reilly, and Justin. I’m always so grateful to meet people and for them to share with my their concerns and especially when they are so generous with their support and share with me that they voted for me and wished me good luck.

I have faith that the great voters in District 2 will support me because I have a 30-year career of serving students, teachers and constituents and that I’m ready to lead on Day1.

Grateful for your support and your votes. ❤️

Good Morning, VB!

It’s been amazing meeting the families here in D2 in these past months and I appreciate all the advice and kind words of support I’ve received. If I haven’t yet had a chance to connect with you, I’d welcome the opportunity to connect in the coming days. A little about me and my background:

(1) I’m a 30-yr retired educator
(2) I have classroom experience as a career and technical education teacher
(3) I managed IT for an entire district
(4) I worked as Staff Aide to an elected School Board Member

I bring experience and expertise to the table and believe that I am the best qualified person to help govern this great school district.

I’m sharing this post especially because academies and these types of programs that offer opportunities to kids to explore subjects they’re passionate about is something special that I was able to be part of in my teaching career. This is the type of Board member I will be-one who communicates with our community and makes sure families have information that helps them guide their children through their educational journeys.

Graduation isn’t the finish line. It’s the beginning of the rest of their lives as they choose how to write their next chapters.

I’ll be their for our teachers and our students making VBSchools the very best we can be. And I hope that I may earn your vote this fall.

Family has always been a source of joy ❤️ for Kate and me. But let's be honest -- raising kids is probably one of the hardest things to do and also the one part of our lives where we might be inclined to doubt if what we're doing is the "right thing." What I always felt was right was making sure their education was *their* top priority and then trying to help them refocus during times of struggle (which we all experience).

As a candidate, I understand that nothing is more consequential to parents than the trust they put in our schools, our teachers, and ultimately, our leadership and I take that vote of trust to heart. For every decision that I'll make or vote I'll cast, you have my word that it'll always put our teachers and students first -- and I have some experience here to draw on since I spent 30 years teaching and working in public schools.

I'd love to earn your trust -- and your vote -- this fall for
School Board in District 2.

Great morning at the Abby Furco Color Run 5K ! It was wonderful to see our community come together to honor Abby’s memory, support a meaningful cause, and celebrate the spirit that makes Virginia Beach such a special place. Thank you to everyone who organized, participated, and helped make this morning a success! Was also thrilled to meet a future English teacher (part of the Teach for Tomorrow program) 💙💙

I enjoyed being in Creeds this evening as part of the Candidate Forum hosted by the Farm Bureau and Creeds Ruritan Club. I hope everyone appreciated my remarks and knows that I value their trust and hope that I can earn their vote because I am the most qualified candidate on the ballot in District 2 with over 30 years of experience in public schools as a teacher, IT manager and on school board staff.

I would love to bring more opportunities to VBCPS in the Career and Technical Education space -- I spoke about it tonight -- right here in D2 -- the heart of the farming and agriculture in Virginia Beach and we don't currently have a built out pathway for Agriculture and Ag Tech in the schools and wouldn't this fit so well with our District? Agriculture is the third largest industry in Va Beach -- why we don't have that path already built out here in D2 is a real missed opportunity. I've spoken with Barbara Henley and our own VB Dept of Agriculture's David Trimmer and Roy Flanagan and like where we left the conversation as a beginning of something that could really benefit our students, especially down here with our rich history of family farming. I look forward to exploring this more after I'm elected in November.

I appreciate being at the meetings and seeing more than just what's being streamed online. If you watch online, you only see the close shot of the person speaking and miss being able to see how the rest of the Board is reacting to what's being said (positive or negative). There's much to be gained by reading body language and facial expressions.

It's humbling and an honor to be endorsed for a seat on the Virginia Beach School Board in District 2 by the very teachers and staff that we will be responsible for looking out for, when elected.

As a former teacher, when important issues affecting our teachers, staff and students come up, you can count me to draw on my 30+ years of service at all levels of public schools to know (1) what questions to ask, (2) who to ask, and (3) who to listen to (the experts doing the work) while also drawing on my own experience and understanding of the entire ecosystem of public schools (students, parents, families, local community organization, teachers, and staff). You all matter -- and only when we act as partners supporting each other will Virginia Beach City Public Schools reach its highest potential.

I want to thank the VBEA for collecting this information and appreciate the directness in addressing the questions that are actively being talked about like using hours instead of days to record our official instructional time that we have to report to the State every year and how that ability to use hours gives us far more flexibility that to use days (because our full instructional day includes more instructional hours than the state assumes to be part of their instructional day)...that may seem a little data wonky to say out loud but it makes a huge difference when the additional hours we incorporate into our instructional day are multipled by 180.

After I'm elected this fall, I look forward to having these robust discussions and making sure that our division administration is asking the most relevant questions when we pursue a calendar strategy. We do have to do better with respect to balancing staff obligations like PD, planning, meetings, colleague collaboration, etc. and clearly we're missing the mark in this area. We can and must do better.
