We were delighted to once again visit our Embassy Adoption Program partner school, Hardy Middle School, and spend time with the students and their wonderful teacher, Chiara.
A special thank you to Austrian actor Saskia Norman and Austrian director Elisabeth Halikiopoulos for leading a lively improv workshop that had everyone laughing by the end of the session. The students enthusiastically embraced improv, showing just how much learning can happen through creativity and play.
We always enjoy visiting the 6th graders at Hardy Middle School and look forward hosting them for their Capstone Presentation at the Embassy in June!

Happy National Apple Pie Day from the Austrian Embassy! 🍎🥧🇦🇹
Attention sweet tooths: on this occasion, we would like to share one of Austria’s most beloved delicacies – Viennese Apple Strudel, or as we say in Vienna, “Opflstrudl” ✨
Did you know that this delicious pastry originally traces back to Arabia? Over time, it made its way to the Austrian capital, where the Viennese truly made it their own. Yet every household adds its own special twist — and of course, nothing compares to grandma’s recipe. After all: Nirgends schmeckt’s so gut wie bei der Oma! 👵

A Meeting of Minds: When Austrian Expertise Meets Boston’s Ecosystem
Open Austria East Coast, together with Austrian Scientists and Scholars in North America (ASciNA) and the Alumni Club Uni Wien, hosted a panel discussion and networking reception on 6 May at the Venture Café Cambridge CIC - Cambridge Innovation Center.
Following a keynote address by our distinguished guest, Dr. Eva Schernhammer from the Medical University of Vienna, the evening continued with a panel discussion on “Artificial Intelligence: Bridging Research, Innovation, and Practice” featuring Austrian experts, Professor Georg Langs from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Medical University of Vienna, Professor Jan Drugowitsch from Harvard Medical School and Dr. Britta Lassmann from Boston University. The contributions shed light on current developments in AI and its impact across disciplines and was followed by an opportunity to connect with fellow guests from academia, research, innovation, and industry.
It was inspiring to see how Austrian ingenuity continues to contribute to—and learn from—the vibrant Boston/Cambridge innovation ecosystem.
A huge thank you to our panelists for the deep dive in their respective fields and for sharing their insights and perspectives. And thank you to everyone who joined us for the event. The energy in the room once again demonstrated that the academic cooperation between Austria and the U.S. remains vibrant and strong.

To mark the 81st anniversary of the end of World War II this week, Ambassador Schneebauer hosted Holocaust survivors and their families for a luncheon at the Austrian Residence. The survivors shared stories about their experiences during the war, having to flee the National Socialist regime in Austria and Germany under tragic circumstances, and about how they all built new lives in the United States.
Their voices remain both a warning and a call to action — reminding us to protect democracy, defend freedom, and stand firmly against antisemitism, Holocaust denial, and hatred in all its forms.
Young Austrian memorial servant volunteers (Gedenkdiener), who serve currently at the Capitol Jewish Museum and U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, were also invited to take part in the luncheon. Their service helps keep the memory of the Holocaust alive.
