China and other foreign adversaries exploit American surrogacy laws for human trafficking. I’m cosponsoring the SAFE KIDS Act to end this horrific practice. The legislation:
✔️Invalidates any commercial surrogacy contract with citizens of foreign adversarial nations
✔️Holds nefarious brokers accountable
✔️Ensures children involved are protected under state law

Beech Mountain’s small businesses are thriving.

I stopped by Fred’s General Mercantile, open since 1979 and the oldest business in town, and Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria, run by brothers Jimmy and Johnny Accardi, continuing a family tradition that started in 1988.

Both are great examples of the people and businesses that make Western North Carolina a wonderful place to call home.

Beech Mountain’s water system at Buckeye Lake was heavily damaged during Hurricane Helene, and the town has been working ever since to restore and strengthen it.

I visited the site to see the progress firsthand — from repairs underway at Buckeye Lake to plans for a secondary water source at Lake Coffey.

Beech Mountain is working to recover, and I’ll keep pushing to make sure they have the support they need to get it done.

Western North Carolina's family farms cannot be forced out of staying in the family by egregious taxes. That's why I’m backing the bipartisan No Capital Gains Tax on Family Farms Act.

This bill eliminates capital gains taxes when a farm is sold or transferred between family members, keeping generational farmland where it belongs — not in the hands of developers.

Henderson County is home to some of the hardest working business owners in our state.

I spoke at the Blue Ridge Growth Awards to honor the entrepreneurs and business leaders whose hard work and investment keep our region moving forward. Congratulations to this year's honorees!

Today we pause to honor the men and women from NC-11 and across this nation who gave everything in defense of our freedom. Wishing everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day.

The Specialty Crop Block Grant Program exists to help WNC farmers, not add financial hurdles. I worked to block a proposed cost-share requirement, and that language is now in both the House-passed Farm Bill and FY2027 Agriculture Appropriations bill. As the only North Carolina Appropriator, protecting our growers is the job.

The North American Deer Farmers Association is raising concerns about Chronic Wasting Disease, a contagious disease detected in at least 23 states with no current treatments or vaccines available.

This is why the FY26 Agriculture Appropriations bill included $1.16 billion to support USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service efforts to combat CWD and other emerging threats to our agricultural communities.
