Your senator needs to hear from you before the Farm Bill vote THIS THURSDAY AUGUST 6TH

The Save Our Bacon Act would gut state laws that keep animals out of extreme confinement, and it would strip states of the power to set their own agricultural standards going forward. A call takes less than two minutes.

Call the Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

Ask for your Senator’s office.

Script: Hi, my name is (Name) and I’m a constituent living in (City). I’m calling to ask Senator (Name) to oppose any Save Our Bacon Act language in the Farm Bill. This language would overturn laws that keep millions of animals out of extreme confinement every year and it would prevent states from choosing their own agricultural standards in the future. I’m urging the Senator to make a public statement opposing the Save Our Bacon Act to help ensure it stays out of the final version of the farm bill. Thank you.

Senate Agriculture Committee: John Boozman (AR) Michael Bennett (CO) John Hoeven (ND) Tina Smith (MN) Joni Ernst (IA) Richard Durbin (IL) Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS) Cory Booker (NJ) Roger Marshall (KS) Ben Ray Luján (NM) Tommy Tuberville (AL) Raphael Warnock (GA) James C. Justice (WV) Peter Welch (VT) Charles Grassley (IA) John Fetterman (PA) John Thune (SD) Adam Schiff (CA) Deb Fischer (NE) Elissa Slotkin (MI) Jerry Moran (KS)

If your senator’s on this list, your call is even more important! Let’s go call call call call call plz!!!

This is footage from Hudson Valley Foie Gras and shows the brutal reality of foie gras productions.

Foie gras is made by force feeding ducks and geese until they develop fatty liver disease. It’s cruel and unnecessary.

But the good news is that we already banned it in Portland and Denver and DC are next. But you can get involved no matter where you live. Link in bio to help!

This farm has also been sued for misleading consumers by calling their practices “humane.”

There is no humane way to force feed an animal until they have liver disease. Foie gras is gross, let’s end this practice for good.

🪿 Brazil just banned foie gras.

Brazil the second country in the world to ban both the production and sale of foie gras nationwide.

Foie gras is made by force feeding ducks and geese until their liver is diseased. It’s unnecessary cruelty and we commend Brazil for saying “NO!”

Shoutout to Animal Equality and everyone who worked on this.

78% of DC voters want to end the sale of foie gras. That’s nearly four in five residents, across every ward.

Foie gras is made by force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers are diseased. It’s unnecessary animal cruelty.

Initiative 86 would end foie gras sales in Washington DC, and the public is already on our side! Link in bio to help us win in November.

DC and Denver will vote on ending force-fed foie gras this November. Portland already passed it.

We submitted over 46,000 signatures in DC to get it on the ballot, which is almost 2X the amount we need to qualify,

Now we need to reach voters. Polling shows only 1 in 4 know how foie gras is produced so we are going to do whatever it takes to make sure everyone knows how cruel and unnecessary it is.

You can help!

From DC to Portland to Denver, the political animal rights movement keeps growing!

This quarter, activists gathered signatures, attended hearings, trained new organizers, secured endorsements, published investigations, and helped push animal rights further into the political mainstream.

None of it happens without people willing to show up. Forward together

Right now, one of the biggest threats to animal protection laws in the entire country is moving through Congress quietly inside the Farm Bill.

Industry groups are pushing multiple proposals, including the “Save Our Bacon Act” and the “Food Security and Farm Protection Act,” that would block states from passing or enforcing many farm animal welfare laws.

That means laws like California’s Prop 12, which banned some of the cruelest forms of extreme confinement and was upheld by the Supreme Court, could become the LAST major farm animal protection laws states are ever allowed to pass.

These are the highest-priority Senate Ag Committee targets right now. ONLY call if you’re a constituent. If you aren’t, try to find someone in your network who is.

☎️ DEMOCRATS
(use animal welfare + voter-approved protections framing)
Minnesota: Klobuchar, Smith
Michigan: Slotkin
New Jersey: Booker
California: Schiff
Pennsylvania: Fetterman
Colorado: Bennet
Illinois: Durbin
Georgia: Warnock
Vermont: Welch
New Mexico: Luján

Example script:
“I’m calling to urge Senator [NAME] to oppose any preemption of state animal welfare laws in the Farm Bill, including the Save Our Bacon Act, the Food Security and Farm Protection Act, and any compromise that blocks future state laws. These proposals would overturn protections voters approved directly and would stop future efforts to reduce extreme confinement.”

☎️ REPUBLICANS
(use states’ rights + anti-corporate consolidation framing)
West Virginia: Justice
North Dakota: Hoeven
Kentucky: McConnell

Example script:
“I’m calling to urge Senator [NAME] to oppose any preemption of state laws in the Farm Bill. These proposals would override laws passed directly by voters and hand more power to massive foreign-owned pork corporations like Smithfield at the expense of states’ rights and smaller American producers.”

The chair of the Senate Ag Committee, John Boozman, recently admitted he doesn’t think a single Democrat will support “Save Our Bacon” language in the Senate Farm Bill.

That’s good news. But there’s still a a huge risk we need to combat.

Boozman also floated a possible compromise that would grandfather in existing Prop 12-style laws while blocking future ones.

In other words: states that already passed protections could keep them, but new animal welfare laws could be shut down nationwide. That would cut off one of the strongest pathways animals have for future legislative wins.

Cory Booker and Adam Schiff have been two of the strongest voices opposing the Save Our Bacon Act. If they publicly reject any compromise with a grandfather clause, it could help kill this effort before it ever makes it into the bill.

New Jersey residents: Call Sen. Booker at (202) 224-3224
California residents: Call Sen. Schiff at (202) 224-3841

Thank them for standing up for animals, and urge them to publicly oppose ANY compromise that blocks future state animal welfare laws.

Everyone else, send this to your friends in New Jersey and California NOW.
