Don't treat the military and veterans like incompetent infants who can't handle their own money!

In coordination with Military-Veterans Advocacy, Inc. , Vets4VetLeadership, American G.I. Forum and Association of the United States Navy, the National Defense Committee was proud to engage the Senate Banking Committee on their important hearing on "Ensuring Financial Protection for Servicemembers, Veterans, and Their Families."

But unlike other organizations who seem to view military personnel and veterans as dopes who can't manage their way out of a paper bag, we think the government needs to get out of military and veterans wallets and let them decide for themselves how to spend their money, and how to pay for their living expenses. If Congress is really interested in military personnel from having to use short-term, non-traditional credit to make ends meet, here's a simple solution:

PAY THEM MORE MONEY! As our letter shows, even senior NCOs get paid far less than the American household average. And we wonder why they have troubles making ends meet? Geesh.

Stop the presses! This is tectonic! Cats and dogs living together, apocalyptic floods, US Military Academy actually having a chance at winning this year's Army-Navy game.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General has something good to say about Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. And this is not just fluff - VA OIG says VBA went above and beyond.

Good on you, VBA. Now, can we do something about claims and appeals processing times?
