Yesterday, I protested with Apple Store employees, labor leaders, civil rights advocates, and local elected officials over the outrageous decision by Apple to close its Towson store, the first unionized Apple retail location in the United States. Rather than guarantee pay equity and safe working conditions for its nearly 100 employees in the area, Apple closed the store without transferring employees to other locations. The IAM Union, which represents workers at the Towson Apple Store, has filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.

As we celebrate Mother's Day and wish mothers everywhere the very best, I must pause to remember my own dear mother, Mary Elizabeth Willis, who died in my arms when I was 16 years old. Her young life was cut short, but she instilled precious values in me that have lasted a lifetime. Thank you mom, I will always love you!
