Before the speeches, before the stages, before history was made — there was an HBCU.

Rev. Jesse Jackson’s leadership began taking shape on the campus of North Carolina A&T, an institution known for sharpening conviction and cultivating courage.

HBCUs have always been more than academic spaces. They are training grounds for purpose. Places where student leaders are guided to use their voices in SGA meetings and campus organizing before carrying that brilliance into the world.

In 1963, he answered the call. And the nation still feels the echoes of that choice today.

We honor his service. And we remain grateful for our institutions that continue to shape leaders who will positively impact our future.

When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. needed to rally the movement, he went to HBCUs. When he needed foot soldiers, HBCU students answered. When America needed changing, HBCUs delivered the leaders and continue to support that legacy today.

Xceleader’s multi-year core funding expires in December 2027, and the national funding landscape for organizations creating access for Black and other underrepresented students is continuing to tighten.

Since 2018, we have registered more than 4,000 HBCU students to vote, trained over 450 HBCU women, invested $15,000 in student entrepreneurs, and built a national network of 5,000 HBCU alumni who mentor and guide the next generation. We are leaning on our community this Giving Tuesday to help sustain and grow this impact by donating, connecting us to funders, and opening doors to corporate sponsorship opportunities.

We are proud to share that Xceleader’s Vote HBCU program () is the recipient of a 2025 Anthem Award () in their Human & Civil Rights: Grassroots Effort category. The award recognizes the contributions of ten students across HBCU campuses in six states and Washington, D.C.

In under 30 days, Vote HBCU registered 859 students across 10 campuses with 20 events, reached 319K+ accounts online, engaged 6.5K students in-person and inspired a wave of student-led voter activation events—cementing HBCU students as powerful voices in shaping the future of our democracy.

Thank you to our friends at for helping to make this tour possible and our student videographer for capturing every moment.

Talk about getting it out the mud. That’s exactly what North Carolina Central University alumnus Josh Sims did to keep some money in his pocket while in school. From throwing parties to making the café stretch, founders and creators always find a way—that’s the difference.

Here are a few gems Josh dropped at our Free Game Fireside Chat at GSU:
→ Smart work doesn’t replace hard work.
→ Track your results—likes, bookings, sales—over time to see how your business is really trending.
→ Entrepreneurship is double duty. Sometimes that means burning the midnight oil.
→ Master a skill and use what you have. The better you know yourself and your audience, the better your shot at success.
