Last month Enterprise Surveys hosted a 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆.

The symposium brought together leading economists, policymakers, and practitioners to explore one of the most important questions in development:
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵?

One clear takeaway: 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
Middle-income countries now account for 75% of the world’s population, and for these economies, raising productivity isn’t about working harder it’s about working smarter. That transformation starts with high-quality, firm-level data.

🔍 Enterprise Surveys are a critical public good empowering economies to:
- Understand firm performance
- Identify barriers to growth
- Design smarter, evidence-based policies

We’re excited to spotlight the recent field mission to Cairo led by Nesma ALI, Josh Wimpey, and Phoebe W. I. from the World Bank Enterprise Survey team.

From April 6–10, the team partnered with the Social Research Center at The American University in Cairo (AUC) to conduct a comprehensive training for local field staff.

This mission marks the launch of the Egypt 2025 survey round, which will collect vital data to better understand the private sector’s challenges, performance, and potential across the country.
