DDNC's Virtual Fall Forum 11/14/2021

On Monday, November 15th through Friday, November 19th, the Digestive Disease National Coalition (DDNC) will host its Virtual Fall Forum Briefing and Week of Action. The Forum’s theme is "Digestive Disease Patient Priorities" and will include an in depth look at key digestive disease policy initiatives, including the Safe Step Act. Fall Forum Webinar: Join policymakers, caregivers, and patients on Monday, November 15th at 11:00am EST as the DDNC hosts its Fall Forum briefing. This webinar will include opening remarks from Senator Lisa Murkowski discussing step therapy and patient access issues, an overview of DDNC funding priorities, an informational session on the Safe Step Act, and timely presentations from DDNC member organizations ObjectiveHealth, VectivBio, Exact Sciences, and Mahana Therapeutics. This event is open to the public, and we encourage anyone with an interest in digestive disease policy to attend.

Should patients be forced to try and fail an alternative medication before insurers will cover the cost of the medication their doctors originally prescribed to them? This is a practice called Step Therapy. Washington is one of more than 30 states that have already passed state laws to reform that practice. Now, there is federal legislation pending in Congress to reform the same practice for employer health plans. On June 15th, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern Time), there will be an open discussion on the Safe Step Act. Step therapy hurts America's sickest patients — reasonable parameters are needed now 05/28/2021

Innovative treatments can help slow disease progressions for those living with digestive diseases and millions of patients living with numerous other chronic diseases. That's why it is so important to have access to incredible scientific innovations so that patients can live full, productive and active lives. But the insurance practice called is a barrier to that access. Patients and their doctors shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get the medicine they know will work best.

Passing the will enable doctors and patients to get access to the medicines they need in a timely fashion.
