Command Sergeant Major Michael F. Brooks is the Senior Enlisted Leader of the District of Columbia National Guard, Washington, DC.
As the SEL he represents and advises the Commanding General on all policies and actions that affect enlisted Soldiers and Airmen of the District of Columbia National Guard. He is responsible for mentoring all senior leaders on duties and responsibilities, quality of life, civilian/military education and development. He serves as the consummate role model for every officer and NCO in the District of Columbia National Guard.

Enjoying a great meal with my Burkina Faso counterpart at the US Army Africa hosted banquet. It is always about the relationships we build!
Had a great first day at the African Land Forces Summit in Gaborone! Met and spent some time with Warrant Officer 1 Yameogo from our partner nation Burkina Faso! We had a great session on resiliency and found that many of the stressors we experience in the US military are very similar to those of African military forces!
Today 75 years ago 160,000 allied troops prepared to conduct the largest assault in history. What were the captains and Sergeants thinking about then and what was the preparation like?
As a leader about to embark on this mission what would you want to train or do with your service members to better prepare them for the days ahead?
Good morning Capital Guardians! One of the most impactful statements I heard all week at the CSELT was by the NORTHCOM CSEL SGM Paul McKenna (a hard as nails Marine). He said “Everyone you meet today has something going on that you know nothing about...so be kind”

What a great way to start our Command Senior Enlisted Leadership Training on a rainy morning at Fort Carson, Colorado! We Jointly conducted the Army Combat Fitness Test with my fellow Command Sergeants Major and Command Chief Master Sergeants from around Guard Nation! Here are my results for those who would like to measure up against the SEL!
