Letter to Birthright 03/31/2017

Letter to Birthright Dear Birthright, We write to you as proudly pro-Israel students concerned about Israel’s new law barring entry to the country of foreign nationals who call for economic, cultural or academic boycotts of either Israel or the territory it controls beyond the Green Line. In light of this new law, we se...

Shout out to J Street U Tufts and Tufts Hillel for their Pro-Israel, Anti-Occupation leadership! Exciting things happening in the Northeast!

"J Street U Tufts is excited to be a part of the newly released Tufts Students for Two States (TS4TS) Statement. In the current political moment, the two-state solution is at risk of becoming obsolete. The Trump administration’s nomination of David Friedman as Ambassador to Israel signal the administration’s hostility toward a two-state resolution. The danger this administration poses to a Jewish and democratic future for the state of Israel is only amplified by the emboldened Israeli Settler movement and Prime Minister Netanyahu’s recent announcement of new settlement construction. J Street U applauds TS4TS in their inclusion of ‘the occupation’ and ‘settlement expansion’ in a list of issues which represent dangers to the two-state solution. We hope that TS4TS fulfills its promise to 'dedicate ourselves to taking proactive steps to address the issues that stand in the way of peace,' and commit to working together with TS4TS in taking action going forward."

Check out J Street U's letter in the The Forward about Donald Trump: http://forward.com/scribe/354539/as-american-jewish-college-students-we-are-deeply-concerned-about-the-elect/

"During his campaign, Trump helped to open floodgates of racism, sexism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism that will be hard to close. In the wake of the election, we have each heard from students who feel real fear about their future in this country, and about their basic rights as Americans. These students are Muslim. They are Latino. They are African-American. They are LGBTQ. They are women. They are immigrants. They are Jews."

"In the next four years, what will our community do to protect our values? What will we do to protect the rights of minorities? How will we act to protect the possibility of a two-state solution? What will constitute Jewish moral leadership during a Trump presidency?"

We are ready to get to work!

Read J Street U’s Powerful Post Election Call to Action As a community, we know well what it is to be denigrated and persecuted on the basis of our race or religion. We did not forget that on Election Day – when our community overwhelmingly voted to reject Trump and what he stands for.
