Just a reminder that as the weather warms up and more people are out walking trails, some individuals leave valuables inside their vehicles. Unfortunately, some criminals specifically travel to many states to target these situations. (Targets are usually Gyms, Daycare centers, funerals, School baseball games, soccer games, football games, Parks, and recreational sites. We’ve handled cases where a car window was broken while it was parked near a bike trail.
Please secure your valuables before arriving at your destination or keep them with you—do not leave them visible in your vehicle, and don't leave them in your trunk. Perps will break your driver window and lift the trunk level to open the trunk. That's not a safe place, and your alarm doesn't cover your trunk.
Keep your cell phone with you at all times and contact the police immediately if you've become a victim. Also, read over the warning messages we've posted at the top of this page.

: ‘Smash and Grabs’ at Walker Ball Park & North Park Recreation Center;
On 4/23/25, LPSO responded to North Park & Walker PD responded to Walker Ball Park in re: smash and grabs. Victims’ windows were smashed & valuable items locked inside were taken.
Sheriff Jason Ard says, “It was learned in both cases that witnesses described a male traveling in a dark colored SUV. Working with our LEO partners, we were able to ID the suspect vehicle: a 2025 Mitsubishi SUV with a Texas license plate. With this information, LSU PD, BRPD and LPSO Detectives located the vehicle in downtown Baton Rouge and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.”
The driver was identified as Tedgrick Montgomery of South Carolina, and the passenger was identified as Sandy Palmer of Detroit, Michigan.
Sheriff says, “During our investigation, we learned Palmer drove Montgomery to the parks. We were also able to tie items located in the suspect vehicle (with a warrant) to park victims & to other victims outside of our jurisdiction. Further investigation revealed these two suspects could be tied to similar crimes in several other parishes & states.”
We have also learned that Montgomery has been tied to what’s referred to as the ‘Felony Lane Gang’. Members break into homes/vehicles with the intent to obtain ID documents, financial transaction devices & personal checks. This group also uses the drive-thru lane window farthest from the teller window, presents these stolen records & poses as the victim in order to fraudulently obtain cash from the bank.
ADVICE FROM OUR TEAM: ▶️ You’d think your wallet securely locked in your vehicle would deter criminals. It does not. Protect yourself & your personal information.
Via our LPSO App, visit our ‘Who’s in Jail’ button to learn more on each.
Our investigation continues.
