On International Day of Action for Women's Health, we're re-elevating two remarkable new studies showing the health impact of breastfeeding for mothers.

A study in Nature identified a specific mechanism behind breastfeeding's protective effect against breast cancer: breastfeeding triggers the buildup of specialized immune cells that can persist in the body for decades.

A second study, in Breastfeeding Medicine, found that breastfeeding mothers had significantly lower rates of postpartum depression, even during the added mental health pressures of the pandemic.

These join a broader body of evidence linking breastfeeding to reduced maternal risk of ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Baby-Friendly designated facilities support mothers in meeting their infant feeding goals, and that support has lifelong implications for maternal health.

The generosity of human milk donors helps give so many babies a stronger start. Thank you!

Today is World Human Milk Donation Day! 🌍

Milk donors make a lifesaving difference for fragile infants in the NICU. Every donation helps provide vital nutrition and protection for babies when mothers’ own milk is not available.
