Trump Backs Off Plan for $1.8 Billion Fund That Drew Political Backlash 06/02/2026

Trump was cowed into dropping the more than $1.7 billion slush fund for his allies due to the legal and public backlash against this blatant theft of taxpayers.

He backed down because the public made their voices heard! We must keep up the pressure pushing back on this administration’s illegal actions and demanding accountability.

Pride month is a celebration of love, community, and the freedom to live authentically.

As we honor the trailblazers who moved us further down the path towards equality, we must continue their fight for justice and dignity for all. Happy Pride Month!

While Trump and the Republicans are busy using your taxpayer dollars to fund a luxury White House ballroom and pay off rioters who beat police on January 6th, I’m fighting to make sure you can afford gas and put food on your table.

Today, I was proud to visit the Voorheesville Fire Department to meet with their brave firefighters and see firsthand the new equipment the Department purchased using federal funding I helped secure through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

This grant award, one of more than a dozen grants I announced last year totaling $5.45 million for our Capital Region firefighters, allowed the department to purchase face masks, state-of-the-art personal protective equipment, and a new washer/dryer for turnout gear.

I’m always proud to support the first responders who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe, and I’ll continue working to bring federal dollars home to benefit our Capital Region and all those who call it home.

Today, we marked 20 years since the passage of Timothy’s Law, one of the first mental health parity laws in our nation.

We named the law in honor of Timothy O’Clair who, at just 12 years old, died by su***de because insurance companies refused to cover the mental health care he needed.

Mental health requires care, just the same as physical health. That fact remains as true today as 2 decades ago. I'm still in the fight to make certain no one is denied mental health treatment because of profits and corporate greed.

This Memorial Day, we remember our fallen servicemembers who gave everything in the defense of our nation.

While we can never repay these brave men and women, we must never forget their ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

Trump's corruption and self-dealing this week reached new highs even for him. Whether making deals to enrich himself & his family, getting payouts for his loyal followers, or pushing for a $1 billion ballroom paid for by taxpayers, he's focused on everything except making life more affordable for families. Representative Paul D. Tonko I have long believed President Trump to be among the most corrupt individuals to ever hold office. His actions, from his war of choice with Iran, to his tariff policies, to his so-called, One Big Beautiful Bill that decimated Medicaid and food assistance, have made life harder and more expensive for...

The House got close to voting to end the Iran war. Republicans canceled the vote. 05/22/2026

Last night, the House was poised to pass a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s war of choice with Iran. But, rather than hand the president a loss and stop this unpopular war, Republican leadership pulled down the vote.

They'd rather bow to Trump's will than stand up for Americans. But, this isn't over. We'll keep pushing to end this war.

The House got close to voting to end the Iran war. Republicans canceled the vote. Republican leaders in the House of Representatives abruptly canceled a scheduled war powers vote, fearing it would pass amid defections and absences.

Huge thank you to Punchbowl News for hosting an important discussion with Rep. Buchanan and I on our ASAP Act that would ensure Americans have access to routine Alzheimer’s screenings.

We must do all in our power to bring treatment and hope to the millions living with this disease.
